Director of Transportation

POSITION DESCRIPTION

• Analyze current business practices and recommendations for improvements.
• Freight rate negotiations with transportation companies both domestic and international..
• Analyze the inbound freight movement to determine freight consolation points to reduce inbound freight expense.
• Presents reports on department operations and expenses.
• Prepares and implements departmental budget.
• Required to have a thorough understanding of transportation finance and accounting practices.
• Oversees or delegates responsibility for the day to day workflow of the department and staff.
• Develops and enforces procedures, policies, and safety protocols for all fleet services.
• Creates and manages plans to ensure all fleet maintenance is up to DOT and company standards.
• Strong personal and professional judgment.
• Directs the operation of fleet facilities in Henderson, NC and Newnan, Ga
• Remains up to date on state and federal workplace safety regulations and communicates the company's safety vision.
• Presents self as a reliable, trusted, and consistent business partner who can manage confidential, proprietary, sensitive information and various situations.
• Solves problems and make decisions quickly whether one-one-one or in a group setting. Promptly confronts and challenges inappropriate actions or comments.
• Establishes self as a leader and a gatekeeper for good business practices.
• Uses a physical presence and communication style that regularly secures informal and formal feedback from other managers through regular discussions or dialogue.
• Proactively supports managing performance, organizational health, and the operation of the transportation department by asking meaningful and challenging questions to develop strong relationships with the management team.
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills as well as excellent leadership skills are required
• Responsible for other duties as assigned or developed.
