Rosie’s Place was founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States. Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity, and find security in their lives.

Over the years, we have become much more than a shelter. We are a multi-service community center that not only provides meals and shelter but also creates answers for thousands of women a year through wide-ranging support, housing, and education services. Rosie’s Place relies on the generous support of individuals, foundations, and corporations and does not accept any city, state or federal funding.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Clinical Director, the Behavioral Health Social Worker will utilize social work practices and theories to deliver compassionate and trauma informed group and individual level programming to guests of Rosie’s Place who experience mental health needs, substance use disorder and who may not be otherwise connected to supportive services. This role focuses on facilitating groups, providing individual triage and stabilization services, implementing activities in the common spaces of our day center and engaging guests in behavioral health programs that promote social and emotional health.

The Behavioral Health Social Worker will receive weekly clinical and administrative supervision from the Clinical Director, which includes supervision towards LICSW credentials. Access to CEU’s to maintain license will be available.

Requirements : Direct Care

  • Provide triage and stabilization assessment to guests experiencing acute moments related to mental illness, substance use, domestic violence, or trauma.
  • Conduct one-on-one interventions to support guests in crisis, utilizing trauma-informed approaches and crisis intervention techniques in a dignified and respectful manner.
  • Develop drop-in individual activities that help guests to develop social and emotional skills that will support development of positive self-regard, sense of self-efficacy and social awareness and emotional regulation.
  • Develop psycho-educational group activities to enhance guests' capacity to manage daily life challenges.
  • Assist guests in navigating and accessing longer-term mental health and social services through care coordination, advocacy and appropriate referrals to community resources.
  • Provide short-term case management to guests as they access new services and establish care.
  • Provide supported referrals to services and community resources as needed, which may include accompanying guests to offsite appointments.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge about guests currently engaging with Rosie’s Place.
  • Connect with new guests to encourage engagement with available services.

Administrative

  • Maintain accurate guest records in our database to track guest support and program effectiveness.
  • Ensure confidentiality when handling all aspects of guests’ information.
  • Participate in weekly supervision, monthly group clinical supervision, program meetings, and monthly staff meetings.
  • Work collaboratively across departments to develop and implement successful programming.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Clinical Director and Leadership team.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in social work (MSW) from an accredited program.
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or eligible for licensure.
  • Strong commitment to social justice and the mission of Rosie’s Place.
  • Fluency in Spanish / Haitian Creole / Mandarin or Cantonese strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a shelter or similar environment with individuals experiencing homelessness, complex trauma, and substance use disorder and on-going mental illness.
  • Knowledge in assisting in crisis situations, providing effective de-escalation and using trauma-informed care principles, crisis intervention techniques, harm reduction, stages of change and behavioral health therapeutic models such as adult learning theory, relational cultural therapy, CBT and DBT.
  • Knowledge and experience with group development and facilitation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with people experiencing homelessness and who use substances with empathy and compassion.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently manage complex situations.
  • COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

    The starting salary range for this position is $75,000—$85,000 commensurate with experience.

    WORK EXPECTATIONS AT ROSIE’S PLACE

    We are a hands-on team and seek employees who are passionate about our work and service to our community. The Behavioral Health Social Worker is a full-time, exempt position. This position works on-site at Rosie’s Place and engages regularly with staff, guests, and volunteers. This position will require travel between Rosie’s Place facilities and community locations.

    Schedule : Monday – Friday 8am – 4pm, with occasional weekends and evenings required.
