The Food Science Regulatory Manager is responsible for ensuring that the organization complies with all relevant food labeling, packaging, and ingredient regulations overseeing our Regulatory Program. This role involves managing compliance initiatives, overseeing labeling processes, and staying ahead of regulatory changes to mitigate risk and ensure product integrity. Essential Functions
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with local, national, and international food safety regulations, including those set by agencies like the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), and equivalent authorities in other regions. Ensure that the organization's products, processes, and facilities comply with all applicable regulations. Communicate findings to management and coordinate action plans.
- Labeling and Packaging Compliance: Oversee the development and implementation of food labeling and packaging strategies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Ensure that product labels accurately reflect ingredient lists, nutritional information, allergen declarations, health claims, and other mandatory labeling elements.
- Regulatory Expertise: Provide Regulatory Expertise on Product Formulation, Ingredient Declaration, Nutrition Labeling, Claims Development, Allergen Labeling, Kosher Certification, and Compliance with Intended Country of Sale.
- Documentation Management: Create and Provide Customer Required Product Documentation
- Quality Assurance: Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure that food products meet regulatory standards. Conduct regular audits and inspections to verify compliance with food safety regulations and industry standards.
- Allergen Management: Develop and implement regulatory allergen labeling management programs to prevent cross-contamination and ensure that allergens are properly labeled and declared on food packaging.
- Government Affairs: Monitor legislative and regulatory developments in the food industry and implement pertinent regulatory policies and standards as dictated.
- Training and Education: Provide training and education to internal stakeholders on food safety regulations, labeling requirements, and compliance procedures. Raise awareness of compliance obligations and best practices throughout the organization.
- Audit and Inspection Preparation: Prepare the organization for regulatory audits, inspections, and inquiries. Conduct internal audits to assess compliance readiness and identify areas for improvement. Coordinate responses to regulatory authorities and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in food science, food technology, nutrition, regulatory affairs, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., Certified Food Scientist, Certified Regulatory Affairs Professional) preferred.
- 5 years of experience in regulatory affairs or a related field, with a focus on the food industry. Experience working with food safety regulations, labeling requirements, and quality management systems is highly desirable.
- Excellent Knowledge of FDA, USDA, and CFIA Regulations with a Strong Working Knowledge of Label Requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex regulations, assess regulatory risks, and develop effective compliance strategies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex regulatory concepts and requirements clearly and effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to Manage Multiple Projects, Work Independently, and Collaborate Successfully within Cross-Functional Teams in a Fast-Paced Environment.
- Proficiency in project management principles and practices, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing regulatory documents, submissions, and records. Ability to identify discrepancies, errors, or inconsistencies and take appropriate corrective actions.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams, mentor junior staff, and foster collaboration and teamwork.
- Commitment to ethical conduct and integrity in regulatory affairs activities, including adherence to regulatory requirements, confidentiality, and professional standards of conduct.
- Flexibility and adaptability to navigate changing regulatory environments, business priorities, and organizational dynamics. Ability to embrace innovation and continuous improvement in regulatory processes and practices.
- Proficiency in Genesis Nutritional Database a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
