Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions

- Plan, execute, monitor large capital projects.
- Work with multiple vendors
- Work across the organization to deliver the project.
- Identifies, develops, and implements projects and facility modifications to improve safety, compliance and/or profitability performance.
- Estimates resources and participants required to achieve project goals. Develops written project plans for organizational approval.
- Effectively communicates project expectations and project status to team members and stakeholders in a timely fashion through documents, formal presentations, and ad hoc communications.
- Where required, negotiates with other department managers for personnel and material resources to achieve project goals.
- Proactively manages changes in project scope, identifies potential problems, and devises contingency plans.
- Manages expenditures consistent with budget and business plans.
- Assists with control system and plant information system modifications in conjunction with the Maintenance, ICE, and IT departments.
- Assists in maintenance of facility Process Safety Management (PSM) programs (e.g., Process Hazard Analysis and Management of Change).
- Evaluates systems, processes and equipment for improvement opportunities.
- Develops, recommends and reports measurements on key business activities.
- Works all hours required to meet project deadlines.
- Works indoors and outdoors in a plant environment.
- Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed and in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
- Enters confined spaces as required and in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
- Climbs stairs and scaffoldings as required.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other devices and objects.
- Physically able to lead and participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.
- Understands both RIS’ ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, and assists with executing their objectives.
- Performs other job-related duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Combustion Engineering, or related field.
- 8 or more years of hands-on engineering experience in a process-oriented, chemical plant environment with an emphasis on process engineering and project management; familiarity with combustion technology is preferred.
- Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DSC) to control manufacturing processes, such as oil refining, petrochemicals, central station power generation, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage manufacturing, cement production, steelmaking, and papermaking is preferred.
- Incineration experience and experience in Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facilities (TSDFs) preferred. Experience with safety and environmental compliance as related to chemical operations, including familiarity with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Clean Air Act (CAA) and Clean Water Act (CWA) and OSHA.
- Experience with purchasing, contracts and capital projects.
- Experience implementing all phases of a project (e.g., concept, scope and budget development, management approval, design and implementation, start-up and closure).
- Capable of managing to completion a variety of projects and programs simultaneously and efficiently.
- Inquisitive, organized and detail-oriented with the ability to set short-term goals independently and to work without close supervision.
- Effective in team environment with strong communications skills and motivation skills and an ability to work well with all levels of the organization.
- Good computer skills (Microsoft Office and terminal applications).
- Good written and verbal communication skills. Must have the ability to work well with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Availability to be on-call or work occasional off hours as business needs dictate.
- Must be medically released to wear a respirator.
- Position requires exercise of independent judgment, exercise of discretion and ability to work with minimum supervision.
