Overview
Ideal candidate will oversee daily operations of our busy machine shop. Will have extensive hands-on experience with manual lathes and mills, CNC lathes and mills, and able to program CNC equipment using Mastercam. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to optimize production processes while ensuring quality and efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate activities of machinists and operators to meet production goals.
- Oversee the operation of manual and CNC machines, ensuring proper setup, programming, and operation.
- Program CNC machines using Mastercam, troubleshoot code, and make necessary adjustments to improve efficiency.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings.
- Train and mentor machinists in best practices for machining, safety, and quality control.
- Monitor and maintain workflow, ensuring timely completion of jobs while optimizing machine utilization.
- Inspect finished products to verify conformance to specifications and quality standards. Order all necessary supplies and materials.
- Create cut list for work to be processed through the saw.
- Work with other departments, engineering, and upper management to improve processes and resolve production issues.
- Maintain and enforce safety standards and company policies
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of machining experience with manual and CNC machines.
- At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or lead role in a machine shop environment. Strong knowledge of manual lathe and mill operations, including setups and tooling selection. Proficiency in CNC programming using Mastercam and G-code editing.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for machine issues, tooling problems, and programming errors. Able to coordinate and schedule multiple orders through the machine shop at one time.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Understanding of machine shop safety protocols.
- Knowledge of additional CAD/CAM software is a plus.
- Order tools, materials, and supplies as needed for efficient shop operation.
