Associate Laboratory Director
Job Description:
The Associate Laboratory Director has lead responsibilities for other technicians in the laboratory and performs the most difficult technician work in the manufacture of antigens according to defined SOPs and experiment plans. Associate Laboratory Director should be: 1. A team player who is detail-oriented, focused and who follows procedures. 2. Meticulous and cautious, allowing for careful preparation of specimens without contamination or errors. 3. Highly organized and systematic when it comes to their work. 4. Able to produce consistent results throughout the production process in order to create a reliable and uniform end-product. The candidate should also enjoy efficiently completing tasks and be perceptive enough to notice small nuanced details in the production processes. They should establish and maintain effective working relationships with those they work with.
Special Skills and Qualifications
- Produce and maintain eukaryotic cell lines; make viral stocks for production of antigens in eukaryotic cells.
- Carry out molecular cloning for the production of recombinant proteins;
- Design, implement, and optimize expression and purification strategies of recombinant antigens in order to meet production design specifications.
- Produce and purify recombinant proteins; define, design, and develop methods for product validation.
- Perform in-process testing, including but not limited to gel electrophoresis, protein quantification, and ELISA assays.
- Create and maintain records according the quality systems requirements
- Troubleshoot technical issues, recommend, and evaluate solutions.
- Be committed to the continuous improvement of the quality system.
- Sets up laboratory equipment and provides all necessary supplies.
- Maintains supply inventory.
- Cleans lab and equipment.
- Follow lab safety guidelines.
- Maintains lab records.
- Manages calibration and operation of equipment.
- Maintains equipment.
- Ensures that specimens are organized and stored for maximum preservation. Prepares and collects specimens as directed.
- Executes experiment plans and directives per instructions.
- Maintains quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Education/Training:
A Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major coursework in biology, microbiology, chemistry, or other related field.
Physical Demands & Working Environment:
The work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and will include the use of protective equipment. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to: 1. Stand and sit for prolonged periods of time. 2. Make repetitive hand movements in the performance of duties. 3. See in the normal visual range with or without correction. 4. Lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 50lbs).
