Position Overview
This position supports Rotary members in designing sustainable and high-impact grants that address Rotary’s areas of focus through humanitarian projects, scholarships, and vocational training teams. The Regional Grants Officer is responsible for reviewing online grant applications and reports for a defined geographic region. You will develop and maintain expertise within your assigned geographic region and in one or more of the areas of focus. You will have the opportunity to work on various organizational projects based on interest, skills and availability. The Regional Grants Officer for this position will be part of a team that oversees grant activity in an assigned geographic region.
Workstyle
This position is designated as Hybrid - Fully Flexible and expected to work from our World Headquarters office once per month to several times a week. The specific days in the office are determined by managers based on business requirements. Rotary is under the jurisdiction of Illinois employment laws; we require all employees to live within reasonable daily commuting distance to Evanston.

You Will Have
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent and preferably a graduate degree in international relations, nonprofit management, economic/social development or public health.
- Work experience in international development, international relations, non-profit administration, economic/social development, environmental sustainability or public health.
- Advanced skills using various computer and web applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint; knowledge of CRM database or Business Intelligence programs preferred)
- Professional communication skills in an additional language (as needed)
- International work, study and/or volunteer experience strongly preferred. Particularly experience working in the Asia region.
- Work experience related to the administration of international humanitarian and/or educational grant programs strongly preferred.
- Understanding of issues related to basic education, economic development, primary health care, water and sanitation, environmental sustainability, or peace-building and conflict resolution.
- Fluency in another language preferred.

Grant Processing
- Evaluate online Global Grant and District Grant applications, consult with grant sponsors on grant eligibility, and approve or decline applications based on Foundation policies.
- Work with Areas of Focus Managers and Regional Grants Managers as necessary to evaluate grant applications and resolve escalated issues.
- Review grant reports and advise grant sponsors on how to complete reporting requirements.
- Cooperate with Stewardship Department and grant sponsors regarding compliance issues, including misuse or mismanagement of funds.
- Approve 75-150 Global Grants and Districts Grants annually, totaling approximately US$3-5 million.
- Coordinate with Rotary’s International Offices (IOs) to ensure awareness of regional issues, local laws are complied with as they relate to grants, and training is provided to IO staff on new grant policies and procedures as needed.
- Provide customer service on grant-related issues by advising members, answering questions, and responding to phone calls and email inquiries.
- Provide feedback and advice to grant sponsors on community assessments, project planning, design, and monitoring and evaluation for maximum impact and to meet eligibility criteria.
- Communicate with grant sponsors when a grant application is declined and provide advice on how to submit a stronger application in the future.
- Advise members on how to utilize the grants software (the Grant Center) and guide them through the application, payment and reporting processes as necessary.
- Maintain regular contact with Rotary members in the assigned region, developing working relationships with the regional and district leaders.
- Assist in the development of training materials for Rotary members and specific leadership positions on grant concepts, policies, and processes.
- Educate and train Rotary members and staff in designing and implementing grant projects through written communication, telephone calls, video conferences, webinars, and occasionally in-person presentations at conferences and seminars.
- Travel
- Travel to Rotary events (International Assembly, International Convention, regional institutes, district conferences, project fairs, etc.) as assigned, as well as to grant project sites to evaluate progress and consult on implementation.
- Contribute to and draft reports and items for Committee and/or Trustee meetings and present them as needed.
- Work with management to continually assess and improve the grant-making model and related procedures and systems.
- Regional Grants Officers are assigned other projects, assignments and roles based on their skill set and interests such as: areas of focus, grants software, endowed and directed gifts, public relations, leadership and training and communications.
