Rothman Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital is a single-specialty surgical hospital in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Our hospital was developed by Rothman physicians to provide their patients high quality and patient-focused care. Our facility features 6 fully-equipped operating rooms and 24 in-patient rooms. We are equipped for joint replacements, orthopedic surgery, pain management and spine surgery, as well as sports medicine, foot and ankle, shoulder and elbow, and hand and wrist procedures.
JOB SUMMARY:
Primary function is to provide assistance to Surgeon with retracting for OR joint surgical cases. Carries out basic patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse in accordance with the standards of care for the facility. Demonstrates the appropriate skills based on level of training and scope of practice. Age groups may include the adult and adolescent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BLS certified
- Cooperative work attitude toward and with co-employees, management, patients, visitors and physicians, and ability to effectively communicate with others.
- High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent
- 2 year minimum Orderly 2nd Assist Experience
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Second Assistant in surgery with retracting, as directed by surgeon and first assistant.
- Participation in short and long call coverage.
- Assists in the care of assigned patients as directed by appropriate nursing staff.
- Demonstrates knowledge of how to maintain a sterile field; supervised by surgeon, and first assistant and RN.
- Assist with O.R. room turnover, maintains cleanliness of the peri-anesthesia and peri-operative areas.
- Practices aseptic hand washing according to CDC policy and guidelines.
- Assist with patient transfer in peri-anesthesia and peri-operative and in-patient areas
- Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patient and family rights, as identified by the center.
- Understands the protocol for responding to emergency situations and the importance of remaining calm in this situation.
- Participates in staff meetings, in-service programs and educational requirements as appropriate.
- Communicates all pertinent information, including findings, problems, concerns or ideas to the assigned nurse, utilizing appropriate lines of authority, in a timely and effective manner.
- Assist with the stocking of supplies in the peri-anesthesia and peri-operative areas.
- Seeks guidance and assistance from the assigned nurse when knowledge base and skill level is in question
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of universal precaution, infection control and isolation procedures.
