Rothman Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital is a single-specialty surgical hospital in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Our hospital was developed by Rothman physicians to provide their patients high quality and patient-focused care.

Our facility features 6 fully-equipped operating rooms and 24 in-patient rooms. We are equipped for joint replacements, orthopedic surgery, pain management and spine surgery, as well as sports medicine, foot and ankle, shoulder and elbow, and hand and wrist procedures.

JOB DESCRIPTION :

Working in a hospital setting the primary function as a orderly 2nd assist is to provide assistance to Surgeon with retracting for surgical cases in the operating room.

The operating room orderly also known as the orderly 2nd assist carries out basic patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse in accordance with the standards of care for the facility.

The orderly 2nd assist demonstrates the appropriate skills based on level of training and scope of practice.

QUALIFICATIONS :

• BLS certified
• High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent
• 2 year minimum Orderly 2nd Assist / Operating Room Orderly Experience
• COVID Vaccinated

RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Second Assistant in surgery with retracting, as directed by surgeon and first assistant.
• Assists in the care of assigned patients as directed by appropriate nursing staff.
• Demonstrates knowledge of how to maintain a sterile field; supervised by surgeon, and first assistant and RN.
• Assist with O.R. room turnover, maintains cleanliness of the peri-anesthesia and peri-operative areas.
• Assist with patient transfer in peri-anesthesia and peri-operative and in-patient areas
• Understands the protocol for responding to emergency situations and the importance of remaining calm in this situation.
• Communicates all pertinent information, including findings, problems, concerns or ideas to the assigned nurse, utilizing appropriate lines of authority, in a timely and effective manner.
• Assist with the stocking of supplies in the peri-anesthesia and peri-operative areas.
• Seeks guidance and assistance from the assigned nurse when knowledge base and skill level is in question
