What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pre-Admission Testing Nurse Coordinator position at Rothman Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital?
Rothman Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital is a single-specialty surgical hospital in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Our hospital was developed by Rothman physicians to provide their patients high quality and patient-focused care. Our facility features 6 fully-equipped operating rooms and 24 in-patient rooms. We are equipped for joint replacements, orthopedic surgery, pain management and spine surgery, as well as sports medicine, foot and ankle, shoulder and elbow, and hand and wrist procedures.
JOB SUMMARY:
The PAT Nurse Coordinator will follow the patient throughout the pre-admission optimization process prior to surgery. They will communicate to patient and/or doctor's offices to obtain recent notes, clearances, and test results needed to clear the patient prior to surgery. The coordinator will ensure all required documents are in the patient's chart for review by the hospital's care team, coordinate anesthesia consults when necessary, and assist the patient in scheduling additional specialty appointments to optimize their health status prior to surgery.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- RN license required
- Degree from an accredited nursing program.
- Proficient in MS Office applications which include Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the PAT chart creation process, checking for correctness and completion for physician review. (Labs, EKG, cardiac clearance, dental clearance, H&P's, etc.)
- Communicate and assist in arranging additional clearance appointments, required testing, and acquisition of outstanding notes, clearances, and test results.
- Ensures that the transition of information from PAT to the hospital main is accurate and that the integrity of data is maintained for clinical analysis.
- Works directly with the pre-operative department and anesthesia to address outstanding documentation for clearances.
- Assists with other duties in the PAT department when necessary (covers lunches, breaks, PTO.)
- Helps to manage schedule and work with the Cardiology practice to avoid coverage conflicts. Communicates closely with the schedulers to ensure accuracy of the schedule and to maintain adequate timing for clearances, appropriately acknowledges and facilitates STAT add-ons.
- Notifies the surgical team of pending optimizations, testing, and cancellations in a timely manner.
- Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychologic and cognitive status.
- Establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available center resources of time, personnel, equipment and supplies.
- Obtaining lab specimens by venipuncture, performs EKGs, and obtains vital signs, if necessary during patient visit.
- Actively participates in Quality Performance Improvement Measures for the Department. Participates in QAPI meetings.
- Other administrative duties as needed - filing, phones, etc.
