What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sterile Processing Tech position at Rothman Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital?
Rothman Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital is a single-specialty surgical hospital in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Our hospital was developed by Rothman physicians to provide their patients high quality and patient-focused care.
Our facility features 6 fully-equipped operating rooms and 24 in-patient rooms. We are equipped for joint replacements, orthopedic surgery, pain management and spine surgery, as well as sports medicine, foot and ankle, shoulder and elbow, and hand and wrist procedures.
*POSITION TIME: MONDAY-FRIDAY 9:00am-5:30pm
Provide and maintain care of all surgical linen, instrumentation and supplies including decontamination, cleaning, sterilization, assembly, identification and wrapping. Responsible for notifying materials manager of supplies that need to be ordered and then stocking supplies. Order and cleaning of decontamination room and sub-sterile room on a daily and weekly basis.
Job Summary:
Provide and maintain care of all surgical linen, instrumentation and supplies including decontamination, cleaning, sterilization, assembly, identification and wrapping. Responsible for notifying materials manager of supplies that need to be ordered and then stocking supplies. Order and cleaning of decontamination room and sub-sterile room on a daily and weekly basis.
Responsibilities:
1. Assemble and wrap diagnostic trays with appropriate surgical instruments and supplies for subsequent sterilization.
2. Collect, clean, assemble, and process supplies, instruments, and equipment specific to the IOS in order to provide sterile equipment, supplies and instruments daily for surgical cases at the IOS.
3. Performs required autoclave monitoring procedures, performs daily and monthly record keeping, and maintains logs appropriate to autoclaves.
4. Follows procedures regarding exposure to Category I tasks in compliance with OSHA and State regulations
5. Checks and maintains an adequate level of sterile supplies and equipment as required in the IOS.
6. Maintains clean work areas in decontamination and sub-sterile rooms to ensure safe practices. Cleans all work surfaces and mops floors in both rooms at end of each day.
7. Performs activities following written and/or oral instructions while working with others, and presenting a neat appearance and pleasant manner.
9. Responds in timely manner to requests from any O.R. staff for help with instruments and trays needed for cases.
10. Recognizes the R.N. as the charge nurse in the O.R. Room and follows directions accordingly.
11. Performs duties in compliance to State and OSHA Regulations.
12. Uses proper personal protective equipment at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school graduate or equivalent
2. Minimum of one-year experience in sterile processing, orthopaedic a plus.
3. Working knowledge of washer-sterilizer, sonic, steam and gas sterilizers.
4. BLS Certified is a must
5. Must be CRCST Certified OR willing to get certified within 18 months of hire
