The Surgical Clinical Assistant (SCA) is vital to our practice and provides direct support to their assigned surgical physician. Responsibilities include assisting with post-op suture and staple removal, post-op wound care, writing pre-admissions testing orders, answering patients' pre- and post-op-related questions, and more. Job Title: Surgical Clinical Assistant
Typical Hours: Mon - Fri: 7:30am - 5pm (will work 40 hrs/wk)

Qualifications:
- Must be a Certified ATC
- Active, valid BOC and NJ AT license required
- Knowledge medical terminology and strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Computer skills including, but not limited to, MS Office
- High school diploma or GED minimum education requirement
Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):
- Prepares injections for the Physician.
- Pulls up x-rays, MRI's, CT's, and various studies pertaining to the patient's exam.
- Requests reports from various facilities for Physicians.
- Reviews Physician schedules for chart preparation including ensuring operative reports, dictations, and studies are present in the chart.
- Completes pre-certifications for MRI's and other Physician orders as necessary.
- Send Visco Injection authorization request to supplement pre-certification representative.
- Scans information into patient record (including all Physician orders, prescriptions, etc. on the date of service).
- Scans appointment tracking to identify when patients are ready to be seen by the Physician and directs Physician in patient appointment order.
- Greets patients in the waiting room and escorts them to the exam room.
- Directs patient to surgery scheduling and/or front desk for checkout.
- Maintains order, cleanliness, and inventory in the exam room, and prepares exam room for patients to enter.
- Cleans and autoclaves instruments.
- Provides and scans proper paperwork to the chart for Physician's review.
- Records vitals as per Physician's request.
- Assists patient with clothing when necessary.
- Disposes of bio hazardous waste and sharps according to OSHA regulation, and replaces sharps containers when existing containers are full.
- Answers telephones in patient areas and provides voicemail coverage for Physician.
- Empties and restocks laundry.
- Covers other areas in the office when not assigned to a Physician.
- Attends required meetings and participates on committees as requested.
