Job Summary:
The Physician Assistant predominately will support the Rothman Orthopaedic - Florida fracture care program including patient rounds, multidisciplinary rounds, ED consult calls with affiliate hospital partner. This is a day shift position to work 3 twelve hour shifts to include weekend rotations. The hours will be scheduled on a rotation basis: 5 AM – 5 PM (Surgical rotation) 7 AM – 7 PM (clinic/rounding), 10 AM – 10 PM (clinic/rounding).
Essential Duties:
- Assists physician during office hour and during hospital rounds to assure timely flow of patients. Participates in all aspects of patient care.
- Serves as a first assistant during surgical cases when needed (may be necessary in main O.R. and outpatient surgery center). (OR first assist responsibilities are at the discretion of the Director of Allied Health and the attending physician).
- Communication with hospital ED physicians on most appropriate orthopaedic course of care
- Provides coverage with evaluation, treatment, and documentation of service for patients requiring orthopaedic care.
- Participates in and contributes to orthopaedic educational activities for hospital nursing and physical therapy staff.
- Assists physician during office hours including preoperative and postoperative instructions.
- Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding treatment instructions and medications.
- Dictates and documents all patient encounters. Dictates Medical Necessity letters. Completes forms for Workman’s Comp. and Disability.
- Discusses patient care and necessary home equipment with Homecare Nurse.
- Prepares discharge letters and make post-op calls to referring physicians.
- Reviews charts preoperatively and document any pertinent information.
- Writes, faxes and/or phones in prescriptions for patients.
- Liaisons between RO physician and outside consulting physicians regarding patient care.
- Assists physician during hospital rounds with post-op patients and with research as needed.

Qualifications
Minimum Education: successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program
Minimum Certification/Licensure: active Physician Assistant licensure and active CPR certification
