Summary:
An instructional coach collaborates with teachers to improve instruction and, consequently, student learning. Coaches facilitate teacher learning by modeling, co-teaching, co-planning, and facilitating reflective discussions. They also participate in professional learning communities, embedding themselves in the process of planning instruction and responding to student learning data. They work with teachers to set goals, monitor progress, and make instructional improvements.

Special Requirements:

• Successfully demonstrated superior knowledge of state and education standards for the specified grade band
• Has consistently demonstrated proficient or higher on 3 consecutive performance evaluations

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Considerable knowledge and understanding of current research-based instructional strategies and the district’s education philosophy, teaching methods, and approaches
• Demonstrates knowledge of a wide variety of assessment tools and the purpose for assessment
• Demonstrates knowledge of standards-based learning and assessment
• Demonstrates the ability to analyze and create an effective response to student assessment data
• Manages time and schedule to maximize teacher and learning support
• Communicates effectively with all members of the school district and community including giving and receiving constructive feedback
• Ability to effectively develop and give presentations for a variety of purposes
• Knowledge of relevant student assessments including nationally normed, state accountability, and locally developed assessments
• Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the development of systems and structures to improve teacher practice within a school building
• Assist teacher with making instructional decisions based on assessment data
• Support teachers in using classroom-specific data to improve student outcomes
• Assist with planning school improvement and professional development for assigned building
• Conduct confidential, collaborative conversations with teachers with the goal of improving instruction
• Conduct high-level, solution-focused conversations with building and district leaders that maintain teacher confidentiality but work toward large-scale improvements
• Design and deliver high-quality professional development via coaching, modeling, co-teaching, and directive seminars. Professional development will be focused on research-based instructional strategies, curriculum implementation, and assessment techniques aligned with the district’s educational philosophy
• Provide ongoing support and follow-up to ensure the effective application of professional development content
• Collaborate with teachers to plan, model, and co-teach effective lessons using current research-based instructional strategies
• Observe classrooms to improve instruction, build supportive relationships, and provide constructive feedback in a non-evaluative context
• Monitor and assess the impact of instructional strategies on student performance and create effective responses to data
• Provide individualized and group coaching and support to teachers, focusing on specific instructional goals and standards-based learning and assessment
• Support the integration of technology into instruction to enhance student learning experiences
• Stay abreast of current coaching research and trends, employing effective methods in practice
• Performs other duties as assigned
