Underwriter, Stop Loss

Role Description
As a Stop Loss Underwriter, you will apply our underwriting guidelines and pricing methodologies to the claims experience and manual creditability factors for each prospect. You will also review plan designs and network discounts to advise prospective customers about the affect those have on pricing.
This position offers the opportunity to be a part of a dynamic underwriting team. You will play a key role in refining procedures, coordinating special projects, and working with all aspects of our stop loss product.
Responsibilities
- Manages a block of stop loss business and case level underwriting within the block to achieve overall goals.
- Operate in a matrix structure working with the Sales, Underwriting and Clinical teams and oversees all aspects of new business and renewal pricing and risk analysis associated with select clients.
- Acts as the subject matter expert in consultation with Sales in closing new or renewal business.
- Project a growth mindset with openness to do better and seize opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications
- Extensive manual and experience rated underwriting knowledge.
- Demonstrated familiarity working with brokers and customers.
- Analytical thinker and creative problem solver.
- Self-motivated.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn new software systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Math, Actuarial, Accounting, Finance or related field.
- 3 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with the ESL policy administration system preferred.
- Experience evaluating network discounts preferred.
