Direct Support Professional-Culinary Instructor
Job Summary:
In this role, you will have the opportunity to teach various cooking techniques, from basic knife skills to complex culinary methods both in a classroom and kitchen environment, while providing a supportive, engaging, and nurturing learning environment. You will work with a diverse ability population, typically in small class sizes of 6-8 individuals, ensuring that each person receives the attention and support they need to thrive. Benefits begin at first of the following month after completing a full 30 days of employment (i.e. start date 4 January 2025, benefits initiate 1 March 2025).
Pay Range: $18.67 – $21.60 an hour based off experience with adults with intellectual disabilities.
Shift: Monday – Friday 7:30 to 3:30
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Uphold the mission and values, policies, and procedures of Roundup Fellowship.
- Develop and implement engaging culinary lesson plans in conjunction with Restaurant Ready and ServSafe.
- Demonstrate proper cooking techniques and methods both verbally and hands on, emphasizing safety and sanitizing procedures.
- Plan and execute lessons that inspire creativity and a love for food, while also covering important topics such as food safety, cooking methods, dietary restrictions, meal preparation, and both savory and pastry fields of professional cooking.
- Assess individual progress, adapt teaching methods, and provide personalized support and constructive feedback to meet individual learning needs.
- Manage and maintain an inventory of kitchen supplies and equipment to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
- Ensure a safe and sanitary kitchen environment.
- Interacts professionally and respectfully with individuals, teammates, and other staff.
- Work with job coaches to develop skills with individuals for future job opportunities.
- Provide direct assistance, supervision, training, and support needed by program individuals for completion of activities of daily living (e.g., toileting, eating, personal hygiene, etc.).
- Driving in the community with our clients in a company vehicle is a requirement of this position. This includes driving routes in the morning and afternoon.
- Administering Medications.
- Model and promote appropriate work behavior and responsible social interactions.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High school graduate (or equivalent) experience with developmental disabilities preferred.
- level coursework with human service emphasis, preferred.
- Culinary degree from an accredited college or university.
- Restaurant Ready and ServSafe certified or must obtain certification within 30 days of employment.
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language for required paperwork, testing and professional communication.
- Must have 5 years of Valid Driving experience and a valid Colorado Driver’s License or be willing to obtain Valid Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of hire.
- Must be willing to drive agency vehicles in the community.
- Satisfactory FBI and CBI and CAPS records check.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Requires sitting, standing, bending, and reaching in providing support to program individuals with a variety of mobility challenges and program individuals personal care assistance.
- May require the ability to lift 50 lbs. in lifting and transferring program participants.
- Requires normal range of vision and hearing for adequately supervising program participants.
- Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure.
- Must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of program participants with challenging behaviors.
- Push wheelchairs.
- Emotional stability and personal maturity are important attributes in this position.
