JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Compensation & Benefits Coordinator

Department: Human Resources (HR)

Employment Classification: Exempt

Position Summary/General Description:

Under the direction of the Compensation & Benefits Manager the Compensation & Benefits Coordinator evaluates existing and proposed jobs and classifies them according to their levels of responsibility and importance to the employer. Responsible for researching what comparable jobs pay in the marketplace and develop competitive salary and benefit structures to ensure they attract job candidates who can work hard and offer a long-term commitment. Duties include conducting salary surveys, examining predictions for market changes in salary ranges, interpreting salary data and performing analysis, according to salary source. This position assists and coordinates in the development and implementation of approved, new or modified plans and employee benefits policies. Responsible for maintenance and administration of existing plans, while performing clerical and administrative support activities for the Human Resources Department involving employee benefit programs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Benefits
    • Assist in the execution and administration and providing analytical support to for a variety of compensation policies and programs.
    • Develop and maintain appropriate job descriptions and compensation information.
    • Conduct salary surveys and participate in them, interpret salary data, perform analysis.
    • Re-evaluate current job positions, promotions, and compensation proposals for prospective employees, etc.
    • Evaluate proposed and existing jobs and classify them in accordant with the levels of importance and responsibility to the employer.
    • Manage job documentation, job descriptions, databases and tables related to job codes, and job families.
    • Develop benefit structures and competitive salary to attract job applicants who can offer a long-run commitment.
    • Prepare statistical analysis, data modeling, incentive pay programs, and costing of base.
    • Provide support to HR department concerning interpretation of compensation practices and guidelines.
    • Provide guidance on issues related to compensation for management
    • Prepare supporting data for the review of annual salary budget.
  • Compensation
    • Coordinate and administer various employee benefit programs (eligibility notification, benefit plan audit).
    • Coordinate personnel procedures to initiate employee benefits as employees become eligible; arrange completion of all required paperwork; act as a consultant to assist employees in making benefit-related decisions.
    • Data entry of status changes, adds, drops and other modifications; conduct employee information presentations.
    • Coordinate and administer drug testing per LDC policy & procedures.
    • Verify the calculation of the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and maintain statistical data relative to premiums, claims and costs; with the assistance of the Compensation & Benefits Manager, resolve administrative problems with the carrier representatives.
    • Generate reports/audit reports as required, assist in all areas of HR as required.
    • Research information from departmental records, files, and related documents and present data as requested.
    • Coordinate HR functions related to exporting of badges and reports, order office supplies and equipment.
    • Compose draft letters, memorandums and Human Resources forms and file correspondence.
    • Ensure the maintenance and security of confidential and general office files.

  • At all times maintain a courteous, positive and professional working relationship with all LDC personnel and the general public (e.g., coworkers, clients and vendors).
  • Work under pressure; maintain regular and punctual attendance including working odd and unusual hours, weekends and holidays as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required preferably in Human Resources or related field and professional designation strongly preferred. Any combination of education, professional certification or previous work experience of not less than eight (8) years that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential duties of the position will be considered.
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible positions in compensation, additional experience above the minimum requirement can be substituted on a year for year basis toward the educational requirement.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working on HRIS.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in benefits administration, including monthly reconciliations.
  • Working knowledge of employment benefit programs and processing requirements.
  • Strong computer database experience.
  • Prior training and/or course work preferred.

Licensing & Certification:

  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) highly desirable.
  • Certified Employee Benefit Specialist Certification (CEBS) highly desirable.

Computer Equipment, Software, Machinery:

  • Proficient in with Microsoft software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required.
  • Proficient with HRIS (e.g., Sage HRMS and HR Actions) required.
  • Proficient in KRONOS (timekeeping software) and UniFocus (scheduling software) preferred.
  • Proficient in Paramount (purchasing software) preferred.


Essential Physical Requirements

  • Requires employee to hear, sit, talk, walk and repetitively use hands the majority of the time.
  • Requires employee to occasionally stand, walk, and drive.
  • Requires employee to occasionally push/pull, carry, lift, and slide/transfer 1-25 lbs.


Essential Mental Demands:

  • Requires the ability to solve problems, organize, plan, make decisions, interpret data, read and write the majority of the time.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Work Environment (inside/outside):

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Other Requirements:

  • Must pass a pre-employment alcohol/drug screening.
  • Obtain and maintain a gaming license through the Pueblo of Laguna’s Gaming Control Board and must provide/maintain, in good standing, a valid New Mexico drivers’ license.
