Job Title: Animal Care Technician

Department: Shelter

Job Classification: Part-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Wages/Benefits: $17.85/hour. Some benefits included.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Animal Care Technician (ACT) is responsible for the daily care of shelter animals at Routt County Humane Society.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Provide daily care to shelter animals including feeding and proper disinfecting of kennels and public areas following sanitization and disease control protocols.

· Report any medical or behavioral concerns or changes in animals to appropriate staff.

· Conduct adoption visits and consultations, lost animal public walk-throughs and shelter tours.

· Ensure animals entering the shelter have appropriate records, identification and assigned cages/kennels; assist with return to owner process.

· Participate in behavior and enrichment activities for shelter animals as directed.

· Act as contact during each shift for volunteers, providing guidance, assignments and training as needed.

· Interacts with RCHS patrons, coworkers, animal control and additional entities and ensures that excellent customer service is provided; always represent mission of RCHS, maintaining focus on providing the best possible service to RCHS and the community.

· Cross-train on other positions as identified and provide support to other departments as needed/directed, including the Clinic.

· Learn and have a detailed working knowledge of the Pet Animal Care Facilities Act (PACFA) program standards.

· Maintain confidentiality of RCHS animals who are held at the shelter as appropriate.

· Regular and predictable attendance is required.

· Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· High School diploma or GED equivalent

· One (1) year of related or professional animal handling experience.

· Ability to problem solve while working in a high stress, fast paced environment and a strong customer service orientation is required.

· Ability to work collaboratively with other departments, contribute to team building and maintain a professional and positive outlook in all situations is desired, in addition to a genuine compassion and commitment to animal welfare.

· Be licensed to drive in the State of Colorado and in good standing.

· Must provide verification of COVID-19 vaccination and comply with all Federal, State and local mandates.

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and taste or smell.
