The Spray Applicator Foreperson leads a team in The Townsend Company’s vegetation management operations, ensuring safe and effective herbicide applications to control unwanted vegetation. Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management:
- Supervise and lead a team of laborers, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to the highest safety and quality standards.
- Train and mentor team members on herbicide application techniques, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
- Conduct daily briefings to communicate project goals, assignments, and safety guidelines.
Herbicide Application and Vegetation Control:
- Plan, oversee, and participate in the application of herbicides to control target vegetation.
- Ensure herbicide treatments are applied accurately and effectively, avoiding damage to non-target vegetation.
- Monitor team progress and adjust plans as needed to meet project deadlines and quality expectations.
Equipment Maintenance and Operation:
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and inspection of herbicide spraying equipment, ensuring proper functionality.
- Troubleshoot and address mechanical or operational issues with spraying equipment as needed.
- Ensure proper mixing and handling of herbicide solutions following product labels and safety protocols.
Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce strict adherence to company and regulatory safety procedures, including the proper use of PPE.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental laws and regulations during herbicide applications.
- Maintain accurate records of herbicide applications, crew activities, and compliance documentation.
Communication and Reporting:
- Serve as the primary point of contact between field crews and management, providing updates on project progress and challenges.
- Communicate effectively with clients, property owners, or stakeholders as required.
Additional Duties:
- Assist with project planning, scheduling, and coordination of resources and materials.
- Support vegetation clearing tasks or other field operations as necessary.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in herbicide application, vegetation management, or a related field.
- Proven leadership experience, preferably in an outdoor or fieldwork setting.
- Knowledge of essential job functions and responsibilities.

- Strong oral and written communication skills.

- Meet all physical requirements of the position.
- Pass all drug and alcohol screens as required by Company policy and, if applicable, required by DOT regulations.
- 18 years of age or older, or 21 if CDL is required.

- Certification in pesticide or herbicide application (e.g., a Commercial Applicator’s License).
- Familiarity with herbicide sprayer equipment, including maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Experience with DOT compliance or environmental regulations.
