Description
Student Success Coaches, as part of the Office of Advising and Retention, provide one-on-one coaching to students, emphasizing minimizing barriers and providing individualized care to support students. Coaches will conduct individual, and group sessions as needed, to assist students with developing success plans and understanding college resources. This role will serve as a student’s point of contact for concerns, issues, and needs and will support students to grow in self-efficacy. The coach also assists students in working with other college departments to access resources and assistance where needed. Success Coaches will also play a role in facilitating training for other campus staff to incorporate coaching strategies into other student interactions and in the assessment of the learning outcomes established for the program.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and conduct coaching sessions with an assigned cohort that promotes success by empowering students to take ownership of their education and by partnering with students to identify and achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals.
- Coach students to develop individualized success plans to improve overall college readiness, including the development of an academic plan and the utilization of college resources to minimize barriers and provide individualized care and outreach to the student.
- Document coaching session outcomes and track progress via reports developed through college resources.
- Engage identified students through a variety of communication channels which may include synchronous video, inbound student calls, email/text/chat, and proactive outreach to students.
- Provide a bridge of support for our student population in need of specialized advising and academic coaching in order to maximize the persistence and completion rates for the student success goals.
- Assist with training of other college staff to increase effectiveness of student interactions across the college, including training in effective coaching strategies, awareness of college resources and academic deadlines, and development of content to empower, support and strengthen a student’s experience.
- Conduct student sessions and staff training on student success topics, including but not limited to resilience, initiative, time management and prioritization, self-efficacy, learning strategies and other related topics.
- Assist with the development of learning outcomes for the coaching program and the establishment (and review of) assessment methods and benchmarks with regular reporting to demonstrate impact of success coach interactions.
- Assist with the development of student workshops on topics that meet the learning outcomes and impact a student’s experience and facilitate assigned workshops.
- Assist with the development and distribution of retention focused communication in concert with other college communication.
- Assist with division initiatives and projects that enhance the student experience and promote retention efforts
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience Required:
- Minimum of at least one year of experience working in an environment coaching college students or young adults with a focus on goal achievement, overcoming obstacles, and developing skills to grow as a student and professional.
- At least one year of experience developing content and facilitating workshops and conducting trainings to support students
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds with a focus on accessing college and community resources.
- Experience working with community college students, specifically students needing overall college preparation and / or readiness skills.
Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements:
- Experience using technology for organization, communication, assessment, and program development.
- Knowledge and awareness of current research related to student success strategies, advising frameworks and coaching practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with academic and student service team members.
- Experience assisting with the creation, implementation and facilitation of new initiatives from concept to full implementation.
- Strong verbal, presentation, writing, and listening skills
- Interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to cultivate effective relationships with a wide range of individuals (faculty, administrators, staff, students, and family members) and to work cross functionally.
Additional Information
INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS:
Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.
