This full-time, tenure-track faculty position is responsible for developing courses, creating lesson plans, and teaching college-level Mathematics and related subjects within the STEM Division's approved curricula. The role includes teaching and evaluating students in Mathematics lectures, covering a range of topics from foundational classes to advanced mathematics. 

The faculty member is expected to fully participate in college activities and committee work. Responsibilities also include assisting in decisions about instructional materials, engaging in division and college-wide discussions and meetings, contributing to curriculum development and assessment, and supporting the division with administrative and committee responsibilities. 

Additionally, fulfilling other faculty duties as required is part of the position.Assignments may include instruction at the main and branch campuses.
  1. Provides college level instruction in Mathematics, and other related areas, as needed.
  2. Develops and updates course syllabi and related materials to reflect contemporary mathematical theory and practice.
  3. Assists the division with mentoring, assisting, and onboarding adjunct faculty.
  4. Collaborates with other faculty in the development of effective teaching/learning and retention strategies for students.
  5. Actively participates in the planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision of the Mathematics curriculum and assists with the curriculum of other closely related programs.
  6. Provides student support by evaluating student progress and providing feedback, maintaining voice and email communication, referring students to appropriate support services, providing academic advice, maintaining office hours, maintaining appropriate academic and attendance records, and submitting final grades.
  7. Works with local high schools and transfer college partners to facilitate the growth of the Mathematics program.
  8. Implements the philosophy, mission, learning outcomes and objectives, curriculum, and policies of the College and of the STEM Division.
  9. Maintains necessary academic records and submit records according to published deadlines.
  10. Demonstrates fairness and flexibility in interactions with a diverse range of students.
  11. Assists in the recommendation and acquisition of related instructional materials and supplies.
  12. Participates in a reasonable number of divisional and College activities and committees, which may include the College Assembly, the Faculty Senate, search committees, divisional committees, program assessment and review, student clubs and organizations, and College accreditation reports.
  13. Contributes to the community as a representative of the College.
  14. Possesses the capability to deliver online lessons to students.
  15. Provides service to the college by participating in college ceremonies, recruitment events, orientations, and other activities throughout the year.
  16. Maintains professional competence through activities such as continuing education, professional self-development, research, and writing relevant to faculty responsibilities.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Master’s degree in mathematics, or related field of study, from an accredited institution, with eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in Mathematics classes, preferably pure or applied mathematics.
  • Minimum of 2 years of classroom teaching experience in a college environment, specifically to first- and second-year college students. Prefer experience teaching in a community college setting. 
  • Ability to design and implement successful pedagogical strategies for students exhibiting a broad range of abilities.
  • Prior experience utilizing innovative teaching methods, incorporating the use of technology and online resource strategies. 
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively with students, college staff, and the public.
  • Commitment to the community college mission, including addressing the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Fairness and flexibility in understanding and working with a wide variety of students and assisting them with adjusting to the intellectual environment and requirements of a college academic community.
  • Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, and colleagues and community partners.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student-centered environment.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Teaching experience in a community college setting.
  • Experience teaching foundation courses and the ability to teach any mathematics course in the RCSJ catalog.
  • Grant investigations, writing, and implementation as an individual and/or part of a group submittal.
  • Experience in outcomes assessment and program evaluation methodologies.
  • Excellence in teaching and facilitating the learning process for students.
  • Learning and using new technology and applying diverse instructional strategies in response to learner demographics and learning styles.
  • Being a successful advocate for new initiatives in curriculum or delivery.
  • Being skilled in building strategic alliances with and across disciplines and with and outside the College.
