Located in the heart of North Carolina’s Piedmont, Rowan County is attractively and conveniently nestled between the state’s largest city and its Capitol. The County is currently accepting applications for the position of Office Assistant III. This position provides clerical support for administration and quality improvement; prepares documents, board packets, and other paperwork; performs message and telephone reception; generates and proofreads correspondence; takes and writes meeting minutes; prepares program reports and monthly reports based on predetermined deadlines; greets clients and visitors; works closely with Board of Health and other program staff; prepares conference room for Board of Health meetings; serves as Facilities Management liaison; collaborates with Finance regarding Assets and the Asset Report; shares responsibilities for deposit and supply runs; is back-up for Vital Records; runs and collects interoffice mail; and performs other tasks as assigned.
Requires knowledge of Rowan County and Health Department personnel policies and procedures; knowledge of web management; commitment to detail, accuracy, time management, flexibility, and an understanding of financial bookkeeping and payroll; ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and implement work with limited instruction; ability to type with accuracy; ability to maintain a professional and positive demeanor; and ability to adapt to a busy, multi-faceted work environment.
Requires high school diploma and one year of clerical experience, preferably supplemented by community college courses in computer technology, business administration, and/or medical office technology; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficient computer skills necessary in using email, Microsoft Word, Excel, and other office programs. Previous experience in taking and transcribing minutes is required. Knowledge of Public Health services preferred.
Starting Salary $33,500 - $36,800 (commensurate with experience) and excellent benefits package available.
