Located in the heart of North Carolina’s Piedmont, Rowan County is attractively and conveniently nestled between the state’s largest city and its Capitol. Rowan County is made up of more than 20 departments and nearly 1,250 employees that are committed to providing a wealth of services to County residents and businesses.
The County is currently accepting applications for the position of Part Time Veterinary Assistant. This position intakes stray, unwanted, diseased or injured animals from the public; administers vaccines, medication, and microchips to animals; participates in and performs animal euthanasia at the animal shelter; greets the public and answers telephones; performs data entry; files and maintains departmental records and a variety of departmental reports; and dispatches Animal Enforcement Offices as necessary; 19 hours per week, not to exceed 999 in a calendar year.
Requires working knowledge of state and county animal control laws, policies, and procedures; general knowledge of office practices, procedures, and equipment; ability to compile information based on general instructions; ability to type with accuracy using correct spelling and grammatical structure; ability to utilize computer software applications; ability to gather and give basic information and instructions regarding departmental programs based on inquires; ability to work in volatile situations involving wild, aggressive, and diseased animals and with irate citizens..
Requires a high school diploma and six months experience in an animal care field; clerical experience and experience working with various PC programs preferred. Ability to obtain and maintain certification as a certified rabies vaccinator required. Notary Public required.
Pay Rate: $16.11 per hour.
