Job Description
General Statement of Duties
Operates a van to transport students to and from school, activities, or events, and performs related tasks as needed. The van driver must adhere to Federal, State, and local regulations, as well as School Board Policy, while carrying out their duties.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED preferred. Applicant requirement of at least 1 year of driving experience as a licensed operator of a motor vehicle, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Illustrative Examples of Work:
· Performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspection; reports operating and equipment deficiencies.
· Transports a small number of students to and from school, along with other activities and events.
· Cleans vehicle inside and out including washing, sweeping, emptying trash, etc.
· Obeys traffic laws and observes safety regulations.
· Ensures passenger safety; maintains discipline on vehicle; completes disciplinary forms as needed.
· Conducts periodic emergency evacuation drills.
· Performs related work as required.
· Follows a predetermined route that may extend beyond county lines.
· Must be readily available to assist passenger in entering (fasten securely) and exiting the vehicle as well as securely entering the building at his/her destination.
· Reports to dispatcher/planner dangerous stops, turns or traffic situations or passenger issues.
· Performs other duties as directed by Supervisor or Transportation Director
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Must be able to physically operate a 7-passenger mini-van/14-passenger vehicle in a safe and timely manner.
· Must be able to safely operate vehicle in all kinds of weather and on all types of highways, roads, and streets.
· Must have an excellent driving record and practice defensive driving technics.
· Must be able to follow a route sheet and adhere to a driving schedule.
· Knowledge of the geography of the District and the location of streets; skill in the safe operation of a vehicle.
· Ability to detect malfunctioning equipment, as related to general knowledge of the vehicle.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, associates, students, parents and the public.
Special Requirements
· Must be 18 years of age.
· Applicable training will be provided.
· Must hold a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
· Clear criminal background check
· Safe driving record
· Must be able to successfully complete and maintain a DOT medic
Salary : $17 - $21
