Job Title: Reference and Clinical Librarian (Open Rank)

The Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) Library seeks forward-thinking and collaborative candidates for the 12-month, non-tenure-track position of Reference and Clinical Librarian.
This position, based at the main CMSRU Library located within Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ, will contribute to reference and instruction on the CMSRU/Cooper University Hospital campus in supporting patient care; undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education; and research.
The Reference and Clinical Librarian will provide outstanding reference service with the ability to conduct complex literature searches in a busy tertiary care clinical environment; provide individual and group instruction on a broad range of biomedical and information literacy topics to a diverse group of stakeholders; monitor the collection and analysis of all library instruction data and develop processes and procedures for evaluation of instruction following best practices of continuous quality improvement; and promote library resources and services, including developing and maintaining discipline-specific libguides. Cooper University Healthcare-specific responsibilities include establishing and maintaining relationships to support a wide variety of associates, programs, working groups, and committees such as Medical Residency and Fellowship Programs, the Department of Process Improvement, the Nursing Knowledge and Innovation Council, the Nurse Residency Program, the Patient and Family Education Committee, and departmental quality improvement initiatives and committees.
The Reference and Clinical Librarian will serve on CMSRU, Cooper Hospital, Rowan University Libraries, and University-wide committees; practice continual professional development to maintain currency in their areas of responsibility; plan, coordinate, implement and manage concurrent projects in response to shifting priorities; work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively to promote teamwork, with diverse partners and audiences; embrace opportunities for contributing to CMSRU pipeline programs; and pursue local and cross-campus collaborations with librarian colleagues to advance the libraries’ contributions to teaching and learning programs.
This full-time non-tenure-track AFT (American Federation of Teachers) librarian position will report to the Director of the CMSRU Library. Non-tenure-track AFT librarians are expected to remain current in their fields of expertise by engaging in activities that support their professional development and to provide service to the wider Rowan community; their responsibilities do not require scholarship, research, creative activity, or service to the wider community and profession.
Required Qualifications:
- A master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association or from a program in a country with a formal accreditation process as identified by ALA’s Human Resource Development and Recruitment Office. (ACRL Statement on the Terminal Professional Degree for Academic Librarians)
- A minimum of five years of professional librarian experience with a minimum of three years of experience in a biomedical/health sciences library in an academic medical center/teaching hospital setting
- Evidence of a strong commitment to service in a user-centered environment
- Experience in developing and executing advanced search strategies in a variety of biomedical databases
- Experience providing individual and group instruction, both virtually and in-person on a variety of library related topics
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to work in an academic medicine environment, both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with evidence of ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Flexibility and willingness to take on additional responsibilities as the needs of the library, and information needs of library users expand and change
Preferred Requirements:
- Knowledge of evidence-based practice
- Experience in using and providing instruction and support for reference management software, such as EndNote
- Experience in using Springshare software
