Job Title: Animal Caretaker Assistant
Location: Waelder, TX (near Luling/Bastrop/Lockhart, and not too far from San Antonio and Austin)
Employment Type: Part-time - Temporary
Pay: $12.00 to $13.00
Rowdy Girl Sanctuary is seeking a compassionate and hardworking Animal Caretaker Assistant with maintenance skills or a strong aptitude to learn. LOCAL APPLICANTS ARE URGED TO APPLY.
This role requires the ability to work a straight shift during the summer months, when care routines intensify due to extreme heat. Applicants must be physically able to work in high heat and humid conditions for extended periods.Adherence to our extreme weather protocols is mandatory, including monitoring water levels, providing ice and fans, and regularly checking on animal residents.
Maintenance and Groundskeeping (Summer Focus):
Summer responsibilities support the sanctuary through heat and drought conditions. Tasks include:
- Groundskeeping and general landscaping (as needed), including trimming and clearing debris.
- Assisting with cleaning, creating, and maintaining cool, shaded habitats, coops, and enclosures.
- Sweeping, mopping, dusting, and cleaning common areas.
- Hauling debris and trash.
- Supporting basic maintenance projects such as painting, minor road repairs, and fence maintenance.
- Assisting with setup for volunteer days and special events.
This position plays a vital role in helping us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for our rescued farm animals.
Qualifications:
- Must meet physical requirements.
- Experience with groundskeeping and general maintenance.
- Keen observation skills and timely reporting of issues.
- Team player with a willingness to help others.
- Reliable, dependable, and highly organized.
- Ability to responsibly drive a Kawasaki Mule.
- Effective communication skills and respect for others.
- Ability to follow directions and complete assigned tasks.
- Comfort with and ability to work with volunteers and adapt to private tours and events.
- Willingness to work holidays, and flexible schedules if the need arises
- Dependable transportation IS A MUST!
Preferred Qualifications (but not required):
- Previous farm or maintenance experience.
- Ability to use small and large hand tools.

Specifications:
- Part-time and Temporary – This is a summer role, 30–32 hours per week from June through late August or mid-September. There’s potential for longer-term work or advancement, but this role is needed immediately for summer coverage.
- Straight shift schedule with flexibility to work any day of the week, including weekends and holidays.
- Must be comfortable working around large and small farm animals.
- Background check and job references required.
- Reports to the Executive Director.
- Pay dependent on experience and discussed during interview.
Application Requirements:
- This is an in-person position—remote work is not available.
- Must have your own dependable transportation and a reliable daily commute to Waelder.
- Must be local to Waelder or surrounding counties.
- Ability to work a straight shift is required, but must also be flexible in case of scheduling changes.
- Minimum 1-year experience in maintenance or groundskeeping preferred.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must have a Texas Driver License and Social Security Card
