Primary Purpose:
The library aide will provide support for the certified school librarian by assisting in performing a variety of library management related tasks and carrying out instructional procedures as directed by the certified school librarian. This position is shared by two elementary campuses, and the library aide is responsible for managing the library.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Valid Texas educational aide certificate
NCLB Criteria (2years of study at an institution of higher education; am Associate Degree or higher; or can pass a formal academic paraprofessional assessment)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work well with children
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to use technology and inventory systems
Experience:
Ability to work well with children
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Perform duties associated with the use of the library automation system including circulation of library materials and running notices, shelving of materials, pulling requested materials, straightening and verifying the correct organization and placement of materials in their proper location.
- Shelve materials returned to the library, maintain orderly conditions of stack areas, and assist with inventory and weeding procedures.
- Provide library instruction, designing by the certified librarian, that includes read alouds, library lessons, locating and using library resources, and promotion of reading/literacy.
- Maintain order and classroom management during library classes.
- Operate a variety of technology and media equipment, including but not limited to computers, projectors, audiovisual equipment, standard office equipment and video equipment.
- Assist with distribution of student devices as part of the Chromebook one to one deployment.
- Support the certified librarian, classroom teachers, and substitute teachers in providing assistance to students.
- Supervise student aides in their job roles in the library where applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the librarian and/or administrator
