Position Summary

Horizons at Rowland Hall is a new summer camp initiative designed to support public school students in Title I schools in mitigating their summer learning loss. Teachers within the Horizons at Rowland Hall program will work directly with students on instruction in literacy and math during the 6 week summer camp, running from June 9, 2025 to July 18, 2025. Teachers will be the primary point person in each classroom, working with a team that includes a teaching assistant, an intern, and a volunteer. Teachers will administer pre- and post- assessments to gauge student learning at the beginning and end of the camp, deliver daily instruction, and accompany students on field trips.


Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Offer high-quality instruction in literacy and math for rising 2nd grade student cohort
  • Design and implement lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate
  • Manage classroom of about 10-12 students, ensuring conditions are optimal for learning
  • Accompany students on scheduled field trips
  • Coordinate with social-emotional counselor around any student needs or concerns
  • Work closely with Program Coordinator to identify any needs or challenges students are experiencing as well as strategies to offer support

Skills and Requirements

  • Background in elementary education 
  • Proficiency in educational technology, such as Canvas and Google Drive
  • Ability to work in a flexible and fast-paced environment
  • Sense of humor and approachability
  • Enthusiasm for working with young children of all levels and backgrounds
  • A commitment to equity and inclusion and demonstrated competence in culturally responsive pedagogical practices
  • Some experience working in a summer camp environment preferred but not required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work through emergencies 
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred

  • lift up to 10 lbs of supply boxes

Additional Information

This is a part-time, seasonal, non-exempt position, reporting to the Director of Equity and Inclusion and the Director of Community Engagement and Impact and under the direct supervision of the Horizons Program Coordinator. The start date is June 9, 2025, and the position will conclude on July 18th, 2025. There will be a mandatory staff retreat and training on Saturday, June 7th. Compensation will be offered in the form of a stipend of $6,000 for this position.
