Position Summary
The job entails planning and teaching dynamic, age-appropriate art lessons in the middle and upper school, and also being a middle school advisor. The ideal candidate will have a background in teaching and/or working in multiple media, including ceramics, along with other 3-dimensional art forms like sculpture, printmaking, textile arts, and fashion.
Skills And Requirements
Candidates should have experience teaching and working with students in the area of developing their visual art skills in 3-dimensional media. Teaching certification and/or experience is preferred. Applicants should demonstrate collaboration, self reflection, cultural competency, flexibility and curiosity. They should have excellent interpersonal skills, a sense of humor and a commitment to reflecting on their practice. - Must have prior experience working with ceramics, 3-dimensional art forms like sculpture, printmaking, textile arts, and fashion
- Develop an innovative curriculum and apply a variety of instructional practices that relate to the unique needs of this age group
- Teach relevant skills, techniques, and practices to students in grades 6 through 12
- Collaborate and innovate with arts faculty, as well as colleagues in other disciplines
- Maintain a clean, organized classroom and other work areas; set clear expectations for student responsibility in clean up and safe use of equipment, tools, and materials
- Evaluate and communicate student progress
- Communicate with students, families, and other faculty proactively
- Create and sustain a positive and creative learning environment
- Be able to utilize technology, with experience preferred in Veracross, Canvas, and Google applications
- Demonstrate knowledge of and experience in topics of equity and inclusion, both in and outside of the classroom, and a commitment to continued learning
- Participate in other events, meetings, and duties as assigned by administration
