A position has been declared open in the Weber School District at Roy Elementary for a Preschool and Special Education Mild/Moderate Paraeducator. This position is for 5.70 hours per day, 180 days (9 months) per year.

Purpose Statement & Job Overview:
This Preschool Paraeducator helps in assisting assigned teacher/therapists, supervisory staff, and department secretary personnel, in the evaluation and instruction of general education and special education students; perform office clerical tasks; and assist families and students during the special education evaluation process.
Primary duties include, but are not limited to, engaging in the following activities with support and direction:
- Complete hearing and vision screenings of potential new preschool-age students
- Record screening results and enter into student record
- Support preschool department with instructional coverage when needed
- Utilize safe and appropriate procedures when managing students with challenging behavior
- Administer assistance to medically fragile children
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with preschool evaluation team and supervising preschool department secretary
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Utilize basic computer skills with the ability to create and maintain simple spreadsheets and other documents
- Remain flexible with changes in assignments and situations
- Relate to families and students in a positive and confident manner
- Independently organize work tasks, problem solve, and select action plans
- Attend to details and follow tasks through to completion
- Remain calm in crisis situations
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality
- Regular and consistent work attendance is required
- Comply with school board policies and follow administrative procedures
- Participate in required district and school trainings
Purpose Statement:
The job of Special Education Mild/Moderate Elementary Paraeducator was established for the purpose/s of assisting assigned teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of special education students; performing classroom clerical tasks; and assisting students by meeting personal care and special health care needs, in addition to developing students' academic, daily living and behavioral skills.
Duties and Responsibilities (not exhaustive):
- Communicates with parents for the purpose of scheduling meetings and taking messages for special education teachers.
- Assists in maintaining students' files/records for the purpose of documenting activities and/or providing reliable information.
- Monitors individual students in classrooms, school and community, etc. for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or administrator in providing records/materials.
- Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities; displaying tact and courtesy; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; being attentive to detail; and working with detailed information/data.
- Adapts classroom work under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce lesson plans.
- Supports students, including providing instruction, in a variety of settings - special education classroom, general education classroom, one-on-one, etc.
- Provides accommodations for students, such as reading tests aloud, scribe, alternate location for assessments, check-in/check-out support, etc.
- Supports classroom teacher in collecting data.
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Implements under the supervision of the teacher, instructional behavioral programs in accordance with lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students' academic success through a defined course of study.
- Assists with daily living skills (e.g. toileting, changing diapers, feeding, personal hygiene, etc.) for the purpose of demonstrating skills and/or providing needed care on an occasional basis.
- Duties as otherwise assigned by the building administrator or special education department for the benefit of special education students.
- Regular attendance at work is critical.
Basic Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds for the purpose of diapering, performing transfers, transitions, and position changes
- Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting in student-size chairs) for extended periods of time
- Must be able to move from sitting on floor to standing position repeatedly
- Must be able to utilize quick body movements to maintain safety and support children in the instructional environment
Additional Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience in a preschool or special education setting preferred
