What is the opportunity?
The Senior Manager role is critical to the first line of defense and leading the firm’s efforts for successfully protecting the RBC WM brand and managing the risk inherent in the activities conducted by the Firm’s complex / branch employees and clients. The Senior Manager is responsible for effectively managing the Supervisory Risk Managers (SRMs) who perform the supervision of the daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic business activities performed by Advisors and support staff in the field. The Senior Manager will regularly handle complex, escalated matters with significant risk and regulatory impacts. The Senior Manager will work in partnership with Divisional Directors, Complex Directors, and other field management in mitigating risk and modifying Advisor behaviors, sales practices and policies that are identified as problematic by designing and implementing effective disciplinary measures and corrective actions specific to the issues identified and by way of training and education with the Advisors. The Senior Manager will work in collaboration with field leadership, Business Risk Oversight, Compliance, and various areas throughout the firm, to lead efforts in continuously modernizing and enhancing the supervisory program to ensure it is agile and effectively reduces overall risk to the firm and its clients. Senior Manager decisions will have significant legal, regulatory, financial, and reputational risk implications for RBC WM-U.S.
What will you do?
Serve as unit leader and subject matter expert and escalation owner relative to all sales and trade-related supervisory activities performed by SRMs.
Hire, train, mentor, develop, and serve as direct manager to assigned SRMs.
Monitor proficiency and performance of direct reports; conduct performance evaluations.
Assess regulatory, reputational, and business risk in all areas of responsibility and escalate potential problems and concerns to the appropriate parties and monitor issue through resolution.
Work with complex management on systemic weaknesses that pose risk to ensure corrective measures are implemented to improve behaviors.
Identify, design, and implement supervisory tools, policies, and procedures.
Maintain a high level of knowledge on industry and regulatory trends and areas of focus to ensure appropriate supervisory practices are in place.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
7-10 years of industry experience with 3-5 years of direct supervisory experience in a broker / dealer and / or registered investment adviser
2 years of direct people manager experience
Strong leadership skills and temperament with a proven ability to effectively handle difficult people, situations, and conflict
Series 7, 63 / 66, 65 and Series 8 or 9 / 10 or equivalent combination.
Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of investment products and strategies and their suitability for clients based on client and account profiles.
An understanding of the securities industry’s regulatory environment and related policies and procedures
Strong, proven verbal, written, and inter-personal communication skills.

Access to a variety of job opportunities across businessThe good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $85,000-$150,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate’s experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs.
