An individual in Edison, NJ is seeking a compassionate and energetic Direct Support Professional (DSP) to assist him in connecting with his community and pursuing his interests. The ideal candidate will have a good knowledge of the Edison area and be comfortable participating in various activities, including outdoor adventures, dining out, and improving cooking skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Community Integration: Assist the individual in participating in community activities such as hiking, walking, visiting bars and restaurants, and attending movies.
- Skill Development: Support the individual in improving his cooking skills, including planning and preparing meals together.
- Personal Support: Provide companionship and emotional support, fostering a positive and encouraging environment.
- Transportation: Assist with transportation to and from activities, ensuring the individual's safety and comfort.
- Flexible Scheduling: Be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the individual’s schedule and preferences.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Edison Area: Familiarity with local parks, restaurants, entertainment venues, and community resources.
- Interpersonal Skills: Patient, understanding, and able to build a trusting relationship with the individual.
- Activity Level: Comfortable with outdoor activities and physically able to participate in hikes and walks.
- Cooking Skills: Basic cooking knowledge and a willingness to learn and teach cooking techniques.
- Transportation: Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- Minimum of a High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be willing to have a background check
- Must be willing to take a drug screening
- Must be authorized to legally work in the United States
