Summary: The Student Conductor will gain valuable hands-on experience in the railroad industry, learning essential skills in train operations, safety protocols, and customer service at a leader in the scenic railroad industry. This position is ideal for those interested in pursuing a career in transportation, logistics and hospitality.
Essential Functions
· Assist the Conductor and Train Crew in all aspects of train operations, including boarding, departure and tasks between departures
· Learn and follow all safety procedures, protocols, and regulatory requirements during train operations
· Observe and monitor safety of all passengers and team members, ensuring their comfort and safety during their journey
· Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient and smooth operation of the train service
· Provide excellent customer service, answering questions, assisting passengers, and ensuring an enjoyable experience
· Perform tasks related to customer interaction, and train documentation under the guidance of a certified Conductor
· Participate in pre-trip inspections to ensure equipment is safe and operational
· Support on-board events, special programs and educational activities offered to guests
· Observe and assist in all operational activities while developing an understanding of the logistics and scheduling requirements of running a scenic railroad
· Other duties as assigned by management
Education/Minimum Requirements
· Some experience in operating heavy machinery or transportation is a plus
· Strong interest in the railroad industry, transportation, and hospitality
· Prior experience customer service or public interaction
· Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screening in accordance with 49 CFR part 219 and background checks

· Ability to learn and take direction from certified Conductors and Operations personnel

Working Conditions/Essential Job Functions
· Must be physically able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs and occasionally up to 80 lbsand perform manual tasks as needed
· Comfort in working in various outdoor conditions and the elements
· Must be able to climb up and down stairs, ladders and walk long distances
· Must be comfortable working in tight spaces
· This position will spend up to 100% of time on the job on your feet
· Shifts range from 6 hours up to 12 hours
· Maintain a professional appearance that represents the company’s standards
