Primary Purpose:
The Secondary Instructional Specialist provides district-wide leadership and support for secondary instructional programs across core content areas. This role is pivotal in strengthening Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), serving as the secondary MTSS/RTI Coordinator, and ensuring the effective implementation of House Bill 1416, acceleration, and intervention efforts. The specialist supports testing practices and ensures the security of STAAR/EOC assessments at the secondary level. Acting as a key liaison between central office and campus staff, this position promotes alignment, fidelity, and continuous improvement of instructional initiatives, ensuring student achievement is maximized.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree preferred
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of curriculum design, instructional strategies and assessment systems
Expertise in state curriculum standards and intervention systems
Ability to interpret data and evaluate instructional programs
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Minimum 5 years as a classroom teacher
Instructional coach experience preferred
Counselor experience is a plus
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Curriculum & Instruction
1. Collaborate with campus administrators and teachers to drive instructional improvements through coaching, PLCs, professional development, and the promotion of best practices.
2. Provide guidance and support of use of available curriculum, instructional materials, resources, supplies, and equipment and recommend purchases for secondary campus implementation of programs. 3. Design and deliver professional development aligned with district goals and secondary instructional needs.
4. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations in the implementation of curriculum and instructional programs.
Intervention
5. Develop, support, and monitor intervention procedures for at-risk students, utilizing data to inform and refine intervention strategies.
6. Provide resources to support at-risk programs and promote staff engagement in intervention initiatives
Instructional Programs
7. Oversee secondary instructional programs and projects, providing recommendations based on district needs.
8. Manage and support secondary instructional technology systems, including rostering and technical support.
9. Monitor the use and implementation of all secondary instructional programs to ensure efficiency and instructional programs are cost-effective and managed wisely.
10. Develop and implement a continuing evaluation of secondary instructional programs and implement changes based on the findings when necessary.
11. Perform duties as required by federal guidelines. Testing Support:
