What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reading Interventionist position at Royal Junior High?
Primary Purpose:
Provide writing/reading and or math intervention to at-risk students.
Administer diagnostic assessments to identify specific instructional needs of at-risk students, and develop and deliver writing/reading intervention plans to accelerate writing/reading growth for students who qualify for At-risk according to the 13 state criteria. The position is contingent on Grant Funds.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from accredited university, Masters preferred
Writing and/or reading specialization preferred
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of writing and/or reading intervention strategies
Ability to administer and interpret diagnostic writing/reading assessment instruments
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Physically able to monitor student discipline and progress and meet other student needs as required
Physically able to move about the room to perform formative assessments and adequately facilitate small and large group instruction
Experience:
4 years teaching reading/math preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Records, Reports, and Correspondence
- Provide writing/reading intervention to at-risk students “most” at risk of failing to attain grade level expectations
- Administer diagnostic writing/reading instruments to students most at risk of writing/reading failure
- Interpret diagnostic writing/reading instruments to determine specific instructional needs of at-risk students
- Develop instructional plans to meet the individualized needs of identified at-risk students
- Monitor writing/reading progress of identified at-risk students
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process
- Assist classroom teachers in analyzing writing/reading assessments and in designing and delivering writing/reading interventions
- Participate in collaborative committees to make instructional and placement decision for struggling at-risk students
- Provide parent training on how to support children’s literacy and writing development in the home
- Attend on-going staff development in the areas of writing/reading intervention
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents as required
- Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of at-risk students
- Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations and IEPs.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect at-risk students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for teachers
- Perform duties as required by Federal Guidelines.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
- Articulate the district’s mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission
- Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement
