Job Description

A Part – Time Park Attendant will be the person to oversee the daily functions of various Royal Oak parks and serve as the point of contact for renters and park users.

Scheduled work hours will consist of a single shift on weekday afternoons/evenings 2pm-10pm, and two separate shifts on weekends. Holidays are split between 8am-10 pm.

Applicants should expect to work 30-40 hours per week thorugh the months of April thorugh November.

Essential Job Functions

A Part – Time Park Attendant may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (These examples do not include all of the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform.)


  • Open and/or lock park facilities and gates as directed.
  • Review daily schedules and plan tasks to optimize time and resources.
  • Perform program and facility rental set-ups and take-downs.
  • Greet and communicate with renters and park users, providing information and answering questions.
  • Monitor park sites, mediate park usage conflicts, and provide assistance to park patrons.
  • Perform facility maintenance, including but not limited to:
    • Cleaning and restocking restrooms.
    • Disposing of trash and emptying garbage cans.
    • Wiping down tables, bleachers, and picnic tables.
  • Execute athletic field maintenance as needed, including:
    • Dragging fields, setting bases, and lining ball fields.
    • Securing and relocating goals, turning field lights on/off.
    • Setting and removing flags, cones, and markers.
    • Mowing and general turf maintenance.
  • Conduct daily tests and performance checks on the splash pad, including:
    • Running chemical water tests.
    • Backwashing pumps and cleaning surface areas.
  • Patrol park premises to maintain safety and order.
  • Monitor and report daily activities and irregularities such as equipment, vehicle, or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  • Safely operate equipment including golf carts, gators, field dragging equipment, and other necessary tools.
  • Follow written and oral directives.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records and reports, including work orders, safety inspections, and daily activity logs.
  • Adhere to and enforce all park safety, personnel, and administrative policies, procedures, and ordinances.
  • Demonstrate and support City of Royal Oak customer service standards.
  • Be available to cover other facility shifts as needed.
  • Work nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Assist other park departments as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KSA

A Part – Time Park Attendant, upon application, shall have the following experience and training:


  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license

Safety & Risk Management:
  • Enforce safety and risk management strategies in support of and compliance with department policies, procedures, and ordinances.
  • Familiarity with and effective implementation of the employee safety manual
  • Demonstrate safe work habits including the usage of Personal Protective Equipment
  • Promptly report hazardous conditions, accidents, property damage or patron injuries to supervisor; immediately address hazardous conditions as directed.
  • Promptly submit completed incident/accident report forms to the supervisor
  • Contact police or fire departments in the event of an emergency; assist with emergency procedures.
  • Render First Aid, CPR, or other emergency assistance as necessary
