STNA Duties and Responsibilities
1. Patient Care Assistance
Help patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
Assist with mobility and transfers , including using wheelchairs, walkers, and lift equipment.
Provide repositioning and turning of bedridden patients to prevent pressure sores.
2. Vital Signs and Health Monitoring
Measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiratory rate.
Observe and report changes in patient health, behavior, or appetite to the nursing staff.
Monitor and document fluid and food intake / output to ensure proper nutrition and hydration.
3. Nutrition and Feeding Assistance
Assist patients with feeding , including those with special dietary needs.
Monitor and ensure proper nutrition and hydration , reporting concerns to the nurse.
4. Safety and Infection Control
Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients by sanitizing rooms and equipment.
Follow infection control procedures , including proper hand hygiene and personal protective equipment (PPE) use.
Assist in preventing falls and injuries by following safety protocols.
5. Emotional and Social Support
Provide companionship and emotional support to patients.
Assist in social activities and help maintain a positive atmosphere in the facility.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
6. Documentation and Reporting
Accurately document patient care activities in medical records.
Report any changes in patient condition to the supervising nurse.
Keep track of medication reminders (if applicable and per facility policies).
7. Assist with Rehabilitation and Therapy
Help patients with range-of-motion exercises and rehabilitation activities as directed.
Encourage patients to participate in prescribed physical therapy routines .
8. Respond to Patient Needs
Answer call lights and patient requests promptly.
Provide immediate assistance with personal care or medical concerns.
Qualifications :
Certification : Valid State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification in [state].
Education : High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience : Previous experience in a healthcare setting is a plus but not required.
Skills : Strong communication, empathy, teamwork, and time management skills.
Physical Requirements : Ability to lift patients, stand for long periods, and perform physically demanding tasks.
