What are the responsibilities and job description for the MED TECHS - ALF position at Royal Senior Care Management LLC?
Properly assist with scheduled medications to residents in accordance with state regulations and Oakmonte Cordova policy. Provide personalized care and services to residents, uphold Oakmonte Cordova philosophy, procedures, and ensure the residents’ rights to safe, prompt, and confidential treatment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
- Follow the six rights of medication administration (right resident, right drug, right dosage, right time, right route, right record/documentation) every time assistance with medication occurs. Check each of the six rights of medication assistance three different times:
- When the medication is taken out of the medication cart or storage
- Immediately before assisting with medication
- Immediately after assisting with the medication
- Assist with medications for resident according to their Medication Observation Record (MOR), if no errors are noted, uphold the residence’s philosophy, and protect residents’ privacy.
- Document clearly and accurately on the Medication Observation Record (MOR) after a medication is taken/given, refused, held, discontinued, changed, disposed of, or returned.
- Maintain a neat, clean, organized medication cart/cabinet, and restock the cart/cabinet as needed.
- Provide quality care and assistance to residents in accordance with Oakmonte Cordova philosophy, policy and procedure, and resident rights.
- Assist residents in meeting their physical, emotional, spiritual, and medical needs to achieve and maintain their highest level of wellness.
- Promote and protect the residents’ rights to safe, prompt, and confidential treatment.
- Answer and respond to pendant calls immediately to determine residents’ needs
- Respect the residents’ right to refuse medication/treatment
- Protect the residents’ safety with medications
- Explain to the resident what medication is being given and why, prior to assisting with medication
- Observe the resident for any adverse reaction to a medication and report it to the Director of Resident Care immediately. IF DRC is not available, call 911.
- Maintain confidentiality of residents’ records.
- Control the spread of infection by following standard precautions
- Dispose of infectious and potentially infectious waste according to procedure, and OSHA regulations.
- Establish and maintain a good relationship with residents and their families
- Respond to resident emergencies following proper procedure.
- Carry out all duties properly and effectively as assigned by the Director of Resident Care
- Attend all regular staff meetings and required training sessions.
- Effectively communicate information pertaining to the residents to other team members according to the residence policies and procedures.
- Effectively communicate any changes noted in a resident’s condition or behavior, adverse reaction to a medication, any resident concerns, complaints, refusal of a medication, any errors noted on the Medication Observation Record (MOR).
- Report any and all medication errors honestly and immediately.
- Seek assistance and advice from your supervisor immediately if you have any doubts or questions when assisting with medications before you perform the assigned task.
- Respond to on-the-job injuries in accordance with the residence policies and procedures.
- Notify your supervisor of any concerns or questions presented by the residents’ family members.
Qualifications:
- Experience in the caring for older adults
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Desire to work with older adults
- Friendly, caring disposition
- Required medication training
- Integrity
Education and/or Experience:
High school degree or equivalent.
Mathematical Skills:
Basic math skills required
Computer Skills:
Basic computer skills required

Physical Demands:
To fulfill job requirements, employee must be able to perform key physical task for extended periods of time. When supporting, lifting or transferring residents, proper body mechanics and safety measures as prescribed by Oakmonte Cordova must be used.
- Able to stoop, bend, and lift 0-50 lbs.
- Able to stand, walk, feel, reach, and see.
