JOB TITLE: Licensed Practical Nurse-LPN or RN

DEPARTMENT: Educational

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the comprehensive school health program by assessing, planning/coordinating, implementing, and evaluating school health services in order to achieve following goals: maximize in-class time by reducing health-related absenteeism, eliminate or minimize health problems which impair learning, and achieve the highest possible degree of independent student functioning.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

GENERAL:

Assure proper health coverage of all students’ needs

Provides healthcare to student with acute or chronic health problems

Administers non-proprietary medication to students as prescribed by their physician

Administers proprietary medication to students as prescribed by their physicianSupport all SNs with clinical oversight and being available to respond to questions and concerns daily.

Assist with the development of nursing care plans and educate on new equipment and procedures as needed.

Responsible for assisting and supporting mandated school health screenings including vision, hearing, BMI, postural assessment, and other health related activities.

Monitor compliance with such screenings and completion of reports/surveys as requested of the PA Department of Public Health.

Ensure all supplies/equipment are available within the school nursing office as required to maintain student health and potential emergencies.

Provide orientation to school wide and agency nurses regarding school policy and procedures

Offer health-related advice and referrals as indicated to all students, parents, and staff members within the scope of school nurse practice.

Responsible for assisting the SNC with continuous quality improvement initiatives, policy and procedure development and compliance, in-service development and implementation, supporting grant funded projects, data collection and other school health related projects.

Responsible for collaborating and consulting with appropriate departments, agencies, and other resources both within and outside the RG as deemed appropriate to ensure optimal student health, individual academic achievement, and evidence-based practice in all areas of school health

Responsible for providing nursing coverage as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

Current Pennsylvania License Practical Nurse or RN license.

Pennsylvania State Police background check

Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance

Indentogo (FBI) fingerprint scan and report

Recognizing and reporting child abuse

Current Driver’s License
