Primary Purpose:
The Food Service Kitchen Manager completes all ordering of food service materials and supervises all aspects of the kitchen including serving of food and cleaning and maintaining kitchen facilities. To accomplish these tasks, the Kitchen Manager must work closely with the CNP Director and Administration of U.S.D. No. 413.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in large-scale food preparation and kitchen management.
- Choice menu planning experience.
- Health, TB skin test results and Inoculation Certificate on file in Central Office (after employment offer is made).
- Desire to continue career improvement.
- Computer skills
Essential Functions & General Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate food services to ensure proper nutrition and safeguard the health of students, staff, and visitors.
- Keep accurate and timely data for the Kansas State Board of Education, United States Department of Agriculture, and USD 413 records.
- Have knowledge and ability to plan choice menus as necessary in operation of the program.
- Communicate effectively with members of the school district and community.
- Ability to make on the spot decisions according to Child Nutrition Program policy.
- Manage kitchen supplies and equipment using sanitation, safety and security practices.
- The ability to follow procedures of confidentiality and discretion in the role as Kitchen Manager.
- Ability to please students and supervise staff pleasantly on a day-to-day basis.
- Ability and desire to increase knowledge and promote school meals by attending Continuing Education Classes, School Food Service Workshops, Kansas State Board of Education Workshops, and District In-Service Meetings.
- Support the philosophy and mission of USD 413.
- Assign work schedules and supervise kitchen employees.
- Train new employees and assist substitutes.
- Help coordinate choice menus for the second line as appropriate with the Director.
- Supervise the preparation and serving of meals according to planned menus.
- Ability to work with school principals and supervise satellite catering to various buildings with attention to quality of product on the serving line and food safety.
- Ensure paperwork and special instructions are attached to carts or carriers.
- Supervise kitchen clean up and storage of leftover food, following all HACCP procedures.
- Make sure all supplies are on hand for each day’s preparation and complete weekly bids by physically checking stock on hand.
- Order and maintain adequate supplies of equipment, food and commodities through a weekly bid process.
- Prepare and complete production paperwork according to Kansas State Board of Education requirements for lunch and breakfast.
- Supervise safety and sanitation procedures according to state requirements.
- Attend manager’s meetings and participate in planning meetings to ensure proper kitchen needs are met.
- Ability to conduct weekly 10 minute meetings with staff reviewing menus & sanitation procedures.
- Submit invoices to CNP Director daily as received.
- Work with staff regarding weekly timesheet timelines.
- Ensure that district policies are observed at all times.
- Adhere to all state and local health and safety policies including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Cashier when necessary.
- Assist with food prep and dishes daily.
- Assist with special occasions as needed.
- Ability to follow all guidelines for school lunch.
- Ability to train staff about the necessary guidelines for meals.
- Plan menus for ala carte line and speed line if available accurately recording information as needed.
- Receive & put away stock and check items, amount, and price for accuracy ensuring that stock is put away in a timely manner using FIFO (First In First Out)
- Return items that are damaged or delivered incorrectly with the driver at time of delivery.
- Accurately complete the Bid Error Sheet as needed.
- Provide a cheerful, decorated cafeteria and serving line through coordination of merchandising activities with staff.
- Work towards as close to zero food waste on the production side w/o running out.
- Ensure staff accurately enter leftovers on production sheets daily.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires prolonged standing.
- Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Requires stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments or varying temperatures.
- Must work in and around fumes and odors.
- Requires physical ability to lift up to twenty-five pounds (25 lbs.) alone or up to fifty pounds (50 lbs.) with assistance.
- Requires multitasking under stressful conditions
