Food Service Worker
Department/School: Royster Middle School
Reports to: Building Production Manager and the District Food Service Director
Payment Rate: According to the Classified Pay Scale
Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
Primary Purpose: The Food Service Worker is responsible for the preparation and serving of food, following approved recipes and making sure all needed items are ready for the next day’s meals. To accomplish these tasks the Food Service Worker Server must work closely with the staff and administration of U.S.D. No. 413.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Health, TB skin test results and Inoculation Certificate on file in Central Office (after employment offer is name).
- Desire to continue career improvement.
- Experience in large-scale food preparation and customer service is not required but strongly suggested
Essential Functions& General Responsibilities:

- Knowledge or ability to learn School Food Service guidelines pertaining to this position.

- Possess knowledge and skills to locate, interpret and complete food production requirements.
- Interpret and modify recipes to meet production requirements.
- Portion plate and serve food according to student standards.
- Meet scheduled meal times.
- Keep service area appropriately stocked.
- Safely utilize and care for all food service equipment and supplies in the work area, including but not limited to, food preparation equipment, refrigeration equipment, sanitation and cleaning equipment.
- Appropriate handling of all food during preparation, service, holding and reheating.
- Check, record, report and correct out-of-range temperatures and food within the danger zone.
- Maintain a clean, organized and sanitary work environment and complete cleaning assignments as scheduled.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills of dish room procedures.
- Practice appropriate infection control to promote food safety to include appropriate and timely hand washing, demonstrated skills to prevent cross contamination, report of all illness and skill lesions, wearing personal protective equipment provided and use and dispose of linen correctly
- Complete all tasks assigned by the supervisor for this position (it may be cooking, service, floor mopping, clean-up or any job necessary to complete the day's work)
- Demonstrate knowledge of kitchen safety.
- Knowledge of role during emergency drills.
- Knowledge of procedures for all hazardous materials.
- Correct operation of equipment and equipment failure reporting.
- Knowledge of emergency procedures for utility failures.
- Demonstrate effective written, verbal, and phone conversations.
- Handle complaints with diplomacy and tact.
- Demonstrate skills to make the student and staff dining experience welcome and pleasant.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Requires stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Must work in and around fumes and odors.
