Position Summary
The Lead for the Shipping Department will be responsible for actively supporting the department supervisor with the day-to-day management of the shipping functions in the plant. They will oversee shipping including but not limited to overseeing shipping functions, assuring quality standards are met before product is shipped, maintain shipping schedule is met, provide status updates and identify issues impeding shipping regularly to the supervisor, and serve as subject matter expert and trainer with the shipping area in order to keep operations running smoothly according to company standards.
Essential Duties/Job Responsibilities (Job Duties)
- Coordinate, drive and assist in the prioritization of daily activities to meet shipping goals.
- Coach others on procedures, teamwork, and lead by example.
- Identify opportunities and implement productivity improvements.
- Assist in the training of new personnel, as required.
- Use job specific tools and equipment to assist in shipping products as necessary.
- Investigate and report all incidents (accidents, poor performance, shortages, quality errors, etc.) to department supervisor within 24 hours.
- Enable effective communications between management and team members, assuring that all team members are kept informed regarding events and production at Southern CaseArts..
- Ensure that all shipped items meet quality standards and specifications prior to shipping.
- Schedule production shifts and monitor operations during shifts to ensure that they run safely, smoothly, and efficiently.
- Attend appropriate daily/weekly meetings with supervisor/manager.
- Ensure that team members are aware of day-to-day targets and responsibilities
- Ensure that team members follow defined shipping procedures.
Minimum Qualifications/Skills:
- High School Degree or GED
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to work independently within a team environment
- Ability to read and operate measurement tools
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Basic math and record keeping abilities
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, diagrams, and schematics
- Ability to skillfully and safely operate job specific tools and equipment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to use MS Office applications
Experience:
- Previous experience in a lead role desired.
- Minimum of two years of experience as a shipping clerk or similar warehouse/distribution role required.
- Previous experience in case production and shipping appreciated.
- Experience in a light manufacturing setting desired
- Forklift experience a plus.
Requirements:
- Work environment and working conditions are reflective of a light manufacturing setting.
- Perform work on concrete floors for duration of shift.
- Must be able to lift and move (push, pull, carry) items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to raise arms above shoulders regularly and freely rotate arms/shoulders to lift/move parts.
- Must be able to kneel, crouch, stoop, bend and squat when needed.
- Work will include repetitive hand, arm, wrist, and leg motion.
- Will need hand and finger flexibility and dexterity and excellent eyesight with or without corrective lenses.
