SUMMARY

The Nurse Practitioner provides direct health care to participants across Recovery Programming (both 245F and 245G licensed programs). This includes history and physical assessments upon admission into residential programming (245G), physical assessments and medication management for participants in withdrawal management, medical guidance to the nursing team in withdrawal management, level of care assessments in 245F and 245G as needed, and other medical services as needed.

The Nurse Practitioner will provide education to both staff and program members on health issues related to withdrawal and substance use and assist in the development of agency policy on health-related issues. This position will work closely with both the Medical Directors as well as the Nurse Manager in supporting the operations and impact of the Withdrawal Management unit.

Sound organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple taskings are a must. They must be able to resolve conflict within the staff and participant structure.  They must possess a high level of crisis management skill, and the ability to work through crisis situations in a professional, therapeutic, and positive manner.

Salary Range: $97,848-$135,200/annually

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supporting procedures for the provision of nursing care and delegated medical care, including:
    • Medical procedures for withdrawal management
    • Medication management process
    • Level of care needs in both 245F and 245G
    • Nursing protocols for participant care, in conjunction with the Nurse Manager
  • Direct participant care in the following areas:
    • Physical assessments upon admission to withdrawal management as needed
    • Medication management with participants in withdrawal management
    • H&P assessments upon admission residential substance use treatment (245G)
    • Ongoing support of medical services for all participants in Recovery as needed
  • Implementing condition-specific protocols alongside Nurse Manager
  • Works closely with the Medical Director to ensure high-quality service delivery within 245f and 245g programs
  • Assist participants in eliminating barriers to accessing treatment services.
  • Supports the nursing team in both 245F and 245G in training and implementation
  • Ensure participants are placed and receive the appropriate level of care through admissions assessments, care planning, care coordination, evaluation, and emergency/safety plans.
  • Assists with coordinating patient care
  • Supervise and maintain all records of participant-controlled medication use.
  • Assists with tasks as needed or directed that will ensure smooth and efficient operation of the health services division, including completion of paperwork, facilitating communication needs and alerts with nursing staff, and maintenance of inventory and records.
  • Participates in staff meetings, in-service training, outside training events, and additional training as necessary and appropriate to maintain growth and development in role and as part of a larger team.
  • Provides on-call coverage.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks and prioritize appropriately.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff and other disciplines, patients, family members, and external agencies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • Skilled in problem-solving techniques and solution oriented.
  • Knowledge of current nursing practices and techniques. Utilizes nursing research to drive changes in nursing practice.
  • Knowledge of infection control practices and their relation to patient care outcomes.
  • Knowledge of co-occurring disorders.
  • Knowledge of the principles of anatomy, physiology, disease process, pharmacology, and psychology.
  • Knowledge of process improvement methodology.
  • Skilled as a change agent.
  • Ability to be flexible and tolerant of ambiguous situations.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner by the State of Minnesota. Unrestricted.
  • Experience in providing participant care in active withdrawal and early recovery
  • Ability to effectively prescribe and manage MAT
  • Experience with participants with co-occurring substance use and mental health symptoms
  • Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds with complex barriers to success.
  • Ability to act as a positive and supportive presence for participants and staff, even under stressful circumstances with a highly professional and compassionate approach and a commitment to person-centered care.
  • Demonstrates at the time of employment and every two years thereafter, competency in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • 6-month requirement between any treatment services and employment.
