POSITION SUMMARY:
This position works closely with the Director of IT Systems to assist with supporting RSR’s overall technology infrastructure, ensuring that IT projects, computer hardware, software, and networks are performing in a highly effective and efficient manner. This position is responsible for keeping abreast of industry and emerging technology trends and making recommendations that support the company’s system needs to the Director of IT Systems.
REGULAR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Systems:
Keeps abreast of the status of IT projects and communicates status to the Director of IT Systems.
Works with the Director of IT Systems to evaluate and develop strategies for maintaining and enhancing system and program performance, network performance, and network security.
Develops computer information resources, providing for data security and control, strategic computing, and disaster recovery.
Ensures technology is accessible and equipped with current hardware and software.
Maintains, manages, and develops upgrades to the company’s telephone system.
Evaluate new or proposed hardware, software, and 3rd party applications to ensure that are consistent with RSR’s standards for security, supportability, and technical infrastructure.
Responsible for the function, supervision, and coordination with outside vendors for the proper monitoring, maintenance, and configuration of systems infrastructure.
Coordinates the activities of the team with other teams and departments.
Keeps abreast of industry and technology trends, available products, and services.
Provides remote/onsite and on call 7x24x365 support, as required.
Supports the design, development, and implementation of all system requirements.
Gathers information from various departments and consolidates the best recommendations into an action plan for new programs.
Recommends solutions that make sense and are in line with future technology and company direction.
Manages projects within reasonable timeframes.
Ensures system application and hardware operate properly and meet the overall needs of RSR.
Continually seeks ways to leverage technology to improve organizational efficiencies.
Anticipates user requirements and ensures technology is in place to meet those requirements.
Sets appropriate goals for projects, monitoring progress and adjusting priorities as appropriate.
Supervises, motivates, and educates employees.
Evaluates, communicates, and documents employee’s performance. Conducts annual performance evaluations of direct reports and reviews annual evaluations of indirect reports. Submits reviews to the Director of IT Systems, CIO and Human Resources for approval.
Properly documents performance issues, employee relations issues, and any other employment concerns promptly and provides the documents to HR for filing.
Works with Human Resources to recruit and hire new employees. Develops training programs for new employees.
Works closely with IT team to promote a positive work environment.
EMPLOYEES SUPERVISED:
Direct: 2 Linux Administrators
QUALIFICATIONS:
An undergraduate or graduate degree in a related field; at least 5 years related experience in Linux systems administration or equivalent combination of education and experience. Five years of management experience is required. Substantial experience and knowledge in systems administration in addition to experience within RSR can replace the education and management requirement. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, computer proficiency in Excel, Word and Access, and strong organizational skills.
Physical demands:
This position may require occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. While performing the duties of the Systems Manager, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision ability required include, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
