Job Overview:
The Systems Designer I, will embark on an exciting journey as an integral member of our design team. In this entry-level position, you will be responsible for contributing to the creation of innovative electrical systems that align with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Tasks:
- Provide low voltage/safety systems design support under the direction of the Senior Design staff with minimal over-site.
- Autonomously complete design drafting primarily in Autodesk Revit.
- Daily tasks include the following:
- Maintaining design documentation
- Setup of Revit models
- Development of design details in Autodesk AutoCAD
- Review and edit project specifications
- Develop new and more advanced Revit Families
- 3D modelling, device selections, and circuiting of low voltages systems:
- Fire Detection and Alarm
- Nurse Call
- Access Control
- Security / Cameras
- Safety-Related Phone Systems
- Two-Way Communications
- Calculations in support of above modelled equipment.
- Validation of design against client design criteria, pre-award direction, and scope of work
- Review of product submittals
- Respond to client/construction questions (RFI’s)
- Attend client design coordination meetings and providing report out to Senior Design Staff and Project Management
- Attend Department, Company, and project management meetings
- Assist with department development and improvement tasks.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff
- Participate in skills training and continuing education to further develop professional skills
- Innovate processes to accelerate design development, improve quality of designs, and increase efficiency of transition from design phase to construction.
- Utilize cloud-based scheduling tools for design task management
- Participate actively in team building activities, cross training
- Follow corporate HR policies regarding project time keeping, attendance
- Designers are scheduled to work in-office, 0700 – 1600, M-F
- Additional hours may be required to meet deadlines and/or support client needs
- Quality Check of other’s design drawings
- Further understanding, memorization, and application of the California Electrical and California Fire Codes.
- Apply commonly used and fundamental codes to designs without supervision
- Verify code compliance of produced designs
- Take initiative to research gaps in knowledge to resolve challenges independently
- Support the team as required to balance work load and share responsibility

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelors of Science in Engineering or related field / Technical certification related to Computer Aided Drafting Preferred
- Nicet I certification preferred.
- Minimum Two (2) years electrical design experience
- Demonstrated application of the California Electric Code and NFPA
- Demonstrated understanding of and ability to design fire alarm and low voltage systems with supervision
- Superior written and oral communication skills (English)
- Excellent time management and organizational skills

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to verbally communicate: convey detailed and accurate instructions and information.
- Ability to hear with or without correction in order to receive and interpret detailed information.
- Required to sit at a desk work station for long periods of time.
- Push, pull, lift, and carry at least 10 pounds.
- Frequently required to walk and stand. This position may involve infrequent site visits which will require the ability to walk on uneven surfaces, climb stairs and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Required to have visual acuity with or without correction in order to read contract documents, analyze data, view a computer monitor, and proof-read documents to identify errors.
- Required to use fingers and hands: type using a computer keyboard, handle, feel, and reach.
- May occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, and crouch.
