When filled RSU 12 is looking for a Functional Skills Teacher who has experience working individually or with small groups of students with unique challenges to develop basic life skills and access curriculum at their ability levels. There is a dynamic team and supports embedded into this program. The successful candidate will hold a 282-Teacher of Students with Disabilities or a 286-Teacher of the Severely Impaired certificate as defined by the Maine Department of Education and CHRC.
Job Goal : This position requires a qualified candidate who is passionate about working with students in a functional life skills setting.
The candidate must demonstrate comfort and proficiency with teaching, implementing, and supervising activities of daily living. This position is responsible for performing Special Education Case Manager duties including, but not limited to, implementing specially designed instruction and coordinating related services, as well as community-based programming. In addition this candidate will be proficient in data collection, writing evidence based IEPs focused on individual student needs, and completing all IEP paperwork to support student programming.
A strong supervisory background working with Educational Technicians providing feedback and oversight on a daily basis is desired. Effective communication and collaboration skills are essential to this job. The candidate will be communicating and collaborating with colleagues, administrators, parents, students, and community members. The candidate must be able to demonstrate flexibility, creativity, and optimism as an educator, leader, and learner.
