BUS DRIVER
As a Bus Driver, you will deliver measurable results in providing safe, efficient transportation for students and other passengers on assigned routes in an assigned vehicle consistent with RSU 21 operating procedures.
Reports to: Transportation Manager
Qualifications: Love what you do, and the opportunity this position presents as a bus driver for the students at RSU 21. We are seeking an individual to operate a school bus. Must meet the mandated physical and mental requirements established by the state and US Department of Transportation, including maintaining a good driving record. Must have knowledge of and obey all federal/state laws in regards to driving and must remain in compliance with Federal/State regulations regarding the use of controlled substances and alcohol as applied to school bus drivers. Must hold a valid Criminal History Records Certification.
No commercial driver's license (CDL) is required to apply. The School District will provide paid training for you to earn the appropriate licenses and endorsements to operate a school bus. You will be required to pass a background check, driving history records check, medical screening and drug test prior to the start of employment.
Responsibilities:
Accountability
To be available daily and on time to perform assigned runs.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle checks daily, and report any vehicle faults to the Transportation Manager or mechanic immediately.
Operate runs in a safe, controlled manner.
Keep the vehicle clean and free of soil and refuse.
Exercises responsible leadership and appropriate behavior at all times.
Must attend mandatory training as required.
Must be capable of working independently and possess the ability to understand and follow through on oral and written instructions.
Student Safety Centered
Must possess the ability to represent our district, and interact with students, parents, and faculty in a positive and proper manner.
Must possess the ability to maintain student discipline and ensure that student behavior is not a distraction to safe driving. Must possess the ability to recognize and report any unsafe act or condition.
Reports all accidents immediately, requesting police or ambulance service as needed; assists injured persons until services arrive; and completes required accident reports.
Conduct bus evacuation drills as required by the Department of Education.

Terms of Employment: School Year. Starting pay for drivers with no experience or CDL is $24.97. Drivers that already possess a valid CDL could earn up to $30.59 based on experience and training. Salary and benefits in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and Board policies.
