Automation and Manufacturing Systems Engineer
Job Summary : Client aims to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites to deliver high-speed, low-latency broadband connectivity to underserved communities worldwide. This role supports, integrates, and deploys automated test and manufacturing applications alongside the associated OT infrastructure. As a collaborative role, it interfaces with production, engineering, and IT teams within an active satellite production facility.
Key Job Responsibilities :
Technical Support : Provide first-line support for integrated hardware and software in production automation systems. These include custom automated test equipment, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) for automated manufacturing lines, interfaces with flight components / controllers, and back-end networking, databases, and manufacturing execution systems. This role includes rotating weekly after-hours on-call shifts.
Testing and Troubleshooting : Perform thorough testing of integrated production systems, identifying and resolving technical issues to ensure proper functionality and reliability. Document issues and communicate with engineering team members. Tasks may involve Python program debugging, physical and logical network troubleshooting, and industrial controls debugging (e.g., PLCs, data acquisition systems, test chambers, sensors, and I / O).
Deployment and Commissioning : Support the development team in system bring-up, including some programming (Python), configuration, and network and back-end system onboarding.
Feedback and Maintenance : Provide feedback to development teams and contribute to building and maintaining a high-performing, connected, safe, and maintainable production environment.
About the Team : The Ground Support Equipment (GSE) team designs and commissions automation and tooling for satellite testing and production. This in-house team works closely with satellite designers, testers, and manufacturing engineers to solve unique challenges in high-volume satellite production.
A Day in the Life : This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position working with leaders across Project Kuiper. You’ll uphold high standards for yourself and your team, constantly seeking improvements in product performance, quality, and cost.
Basic Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information / engineering technology, or relevant education and experience.
- Experience with installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting OT equipment.
