DESCRIPTION OF WORK:This position is responsible for compiling and analyzing a wide variety of ridership, scheduling, operations, and field data to develop and maintain efficient fixed transit routes and regular and complex schedules. Salary $53,692 - $89,487
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL :
Bus/Rail Operations:
- Assists in research, analyzes data and prepares reports. Develops and administers surveys for customers and the public. Utilizes analyses to make recommendations for service and various projects/studies throughout the District.
- In the absence of supervisor, represents the organization regarding transit service and requests for service changes with public agencies, transportation management organizations and civic organizations. Conducts public meetings on service-related issues.
- Assists in producing computerized run cuts for Bus/ Rail Operator votes.
Bus Operations:
- Participates in the formulation of the annual service plan and individual run board plans. Develops plans for implementation of discontinued or unproductive service.
- Assists in evaluating costs of potential new or modified service, determines recommended service and develops schedules for new or modified transit service via manual and computerized methods. Prepares special schedules for special events or emergency route services.
Rail Operations:
- Reviews and develops long- and intermediate-range rail operation plans and major service changes.
- Formulates draft and final operating rail schedules for new or modified transit service and develops costs of new or modified service. Ensures schedules are cost efficient, comply with appropriate service standards, and utilize appropriate interlining and other cost containment methods.
- Reviews operating rail schedules for special service and ensures efficient interlining and utilization of resources.
OTHER:
- All job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in planning, transportation, engineering, or related field.
- A minimum of one year of experience in transportation planning related to transit service planning and scheduling (could include transportation operations and logistics, long- and intermediate-range urban and regional planning, customer service and public/community involvement, transportation project coordination, etc.); rail scheduling experience preferred.
- A minimum of six months of experience in run cutting techniques including proficiency in computerized run cutting methods.
- A minimum of six months of experience in manual and computerized schedule making techniques.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to read and understand maps.
- Ability to analyze data.
- Ability to use sound judgment.
- Ability to efficiently manage time and workload, which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Not more than five points assessed against motor vehicle record (MVR) in the past two years as well as possessing a continually valid driver's license for the past two years. Also no DUI, DWI, or reckless driving in the past 24 months.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include working some evenings and weekends as required.
