Job Title : Construction & Commissioning Instrumentation Technician

Position Summary :

We are seeking an experienced Construction & Commissioning Instrumentation Technician who can manage all aspects of field instrumentation, from initial installation checks to final commissioning and integration. The ideal candidate will bring in-depth knowledge of process measurements, control valves, vibration monitoring, and various communication protocols. Experience in large-scale industrial settings such as refineries, chemical plants, nuclear facilities, fossil fuel power stations, as well as midstream and upstream oil and gas environments, is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities :

Instrumentation Installation & Inspection :

Verify proper installation of diverse instrumentation including flow, level, pressure, temperature, analytical, and vibration measurement devices.
Conduct thorough installation inspections against project drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
Document inspection findings and prepare instrumentation installation records.

Configuration, Calibration & Commissioning :

Set up, configure, and calibrate a wide range of instrumentation, including, but not limited to :

Flow : Flow Instruments :

Ultrasonic (transit-time, doppler), magnetic, Coriolis, vortex, variable area, thermal mass, turbine, and DP-based flowmeters with primary flow elements (orifice plates, venturis, pitot tubes).

Level : Level Instruments :

Radar (free-space, guided wave), magnetostrictive, displacer level transmitters, capacitance, ultrasonic, DP level, and float-based systems.

Temperature Instruments : RTDs, thermocouples, thermowells, infrared sensors, bimetallic thermometers, and fiber-optic temperature measurement devices.

Analytical Instruments : pH, conductivity, oxygen analyzers, moisture analyzers, dew point analyzers, gas analyzers, continuous emission monitors, and process gas chromatographs.

Vibration Instruments :

Accelerometers, velocity probes, eddy-current displacement sensors, and portable vibration analyzers for rotating machinery health monitoring.

Commission and conduct full functional tests on each instrument, verifying signal integrity, proper scaling, alarm setpoints, and communication with DCS, PLC, or other control systems.

Perform loop checks, ensuring end-to-end functionality and readiness for startup.

Control Valves & Final Control Elements :

Inspect, stroke, and configure various control valves (rotary, butterfly, globe, gate, ball) and their associated components.

Install, test, and troubleshoot valve accessories including solenoids, limit switches, position transmitters, I / P converters, positioners, and volume tanks.

Ensure proper operation under normal and emergency conditions, and validate fail-safe modes.

Communication Protocols & Signal Types :

Work with a wide range of signal types, including analog (4-20 mA, 1-5 VDC) and digital (HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Modbus, DeviceNet) communications.

Integrate instruments into control networks using wireless solutions (e.g., WirelessHART, ISA100) where applicable, ensuring robust and secure data transmission.

Confirm proper addressing, configuration, and loop tuning to achieve optimal process control performance.

Troubleshooting & Documentation :

Diagnose instrumentation and control-related issues by interpreting P&IDs, loop sheets, wiring diagrams, and vendor data.

Isolate and rectify faults in electrical and electronic circuits, communication links, and field devices.

Maintain accurate documentation including calibration records, loop sheets, commissioning reports, and as-built information.

Health, Safety & Compliance :

Adhere strictly to all company, client, and regulatory health and safety standards.

Follow lockout / tagout procedures, permit-to-work guidelines, and hazardous area classification requirements to ensure a safe working environment.

Qualifications & Skills :

Education & Experience :

Technical certification or journeyman-level instrumentation training required.

Minimum of 2 years of progressive, hands-on field instrumentation experience in heavy industrial environments.

Technical Proficiency :

Comprehensive understanding of the principles and theory of operation for a wide range of instrumentation and control valves.

Strong knowledge of electrical circuits, electronics, and their application to instrumentation loops.

Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, control logic narratives, and vendor manuals with ease.

Communication & Teamwork :

Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams.

Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable to changing priorities and project schedules.

Additional Requirements :

Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites.

Ability to work extended hours or shifts as required by project milestones.
